For some odd reason the idea of a 41 Mag (or 414 SuperMag) in a 23" Contender seems purty good. But... I'm looking at a SWC GC of @ 215gr or so to use with it.

The standard T/C twist seems to be 1:20, though I have seen 1:14 listed (IIRC).

If I go MGM, I would specify a twist....

Went to MGM, but the list

Doesn't even have a 41 Mag, but you look at the PDF and the 414 is there as well

That's really exciting! I've often thought about the same chamberings in a single shot rifle. Others I've considered are somewhat larger cases, but still using the 41 caliber cast bullet. In my opinion this is one of the optimal diameters, as it's small enough to get good velocity and trajectory, while large enough to provide good hunting characteristics.

I sent my CPA Stevens 44-1/2 back to the Shuttleworths just today to be rebarreled to another hunting caliber. I'm very excited about it too, and will start a thread shortly.

I threatened for years to get a 1885 rebored to .41 mag chambered to suit the cast boolits designed to seat forward in the Black Hawk.
Properly loaded the Black Hawk is a one handed 40-65. The 1885 just seemed the right thing. Might still do it.

You can back into the twist by knowing the bullet weight.
Then determine the approximate bullet length.
Then plug into the online bullet and twist calculators.

Any where from 20" to 24" should be ok unless your are going launch something close to 400 grains.

As a Side note: MGM has .25ACP listed with the .257" Groove Diameter cartridges which would make a Very inaccurate Barrel for it's .251" FMJ Bullets.
Also, they do not list .25-5, .25-10, .25-10 Halsted, .32 Short Colt, .32 Long Colt, nor .32 Extra Long CF.
Just a little less used cartridges but still useful.

Don't know what Marlin is using for the .41 Magnum but I have shot 255-300 grain boolits and they were very accurate at 50 yards.

I have one of the TC Collectors Association .41 Magnum Super 16 barrels that can be used as a carbine or pistol as it is 16.25" long. It is a very handy carbine.

Bought a Ruger #3 .22 Hornet with the thoughts of having it rebored to .41 Magnum but am having so much fun with it as a .22 Hornet it may be spared... Also have a Encore with a .405 Winchester barrel that I had cut back to 20" to match my .500 S&W and .50 muzzleloader barrel...a hoot to shoot...
