This is one of the batches that are AA #9 speed.

It will not ignite well or at all in 44 Mag or 357 Mag with Winchester Pistol Primers.

Finally stumbled into a supply of WSPM and WLPM primers so I thought I was set.

AA book data (358429) and the primers are flat as a fritter with the small pistol magnum primers.

Loaded some today way down in accordance with one of my Hornady books.

I have loaded several rifle cartridges with this powder (IAW Maven recommendations 30-06) AND 7.7X58 and all was well.

Long roundabout way to ask . . .
All that to say have others had any issues with this lot of WC820?

OH and I have a MUCH older batch of WC 820 I refer to as WC 820 Slow which is exactly like H110 (tested side by side) and it ignites easily and consistently in all configurations and all pistol cartridges I have tried.

Not enough left out of 24 pounds to waste in Rifle chamberings.

How is your crimp?

This powder often will not ignite if there is air space in the cartridge. I have a lot of experience with WC820 in 454 Casull and 44 Rem Mag. Magnum primers are not needed in these cartridges. On the other hand, book starting loads will not ignite.

Recently I did a side-by-side accuracy test with identical components except powder, with 2400 in one batch of 25 and WC820 in the other batch of 44 Rem Mag ammo. WC820 was significantly more accurate. It is an excellent powder when run at the pressures it likes.

I don't like to quote charge data in public forums, but if you send me a PM I'll discuss them with you. What guns are you using?

I have used alot of 820 slow in many caliber handguns with excellent results ! from below 30 degrees to 90 degrees temp, i have also seen alot of other shooter's use 820 for many years ! all use mag primers , one was using std primers in the @50+ degree weather when temps dropped to 30's he had squib loads switched to mag primers problem solved.

In my 357 Max rifle, magnum primers were much more accurate. I had no squib loads with standard pistol primers but, high ES.

So with two different 150-160 grain PB boolits today, 11.0 grains of my lot seems to be a MAX loading.

Ran out of cold weather tolerance ( and fell pretty hard on the ice) before I tested 358156 at 11.0.

i have batch # BAJ47323 WC 820 it burns like aa#9 and maybe a little slower , it however works in38 spec ,357mag, 44mag, 454 casull, 45colt ... i always crimp and it lights like a champ so i dont understand why your batch is so hard to ignite..

ive used a ton of it. Use aa9 data and a cci mag primer. I don't even fool with standard primers using 820 anymore. Yes you can get by with standard primers if your using top end loads but anything reduced needs a mag and even the full power stuff with give more consistent velocity's with a mag primer and usually the hotter the better.

I've burned up countless pounds of WC 820 of different lots down thru the years and never had a problem with ignition when using CCI-350 mag pistol primers.
