so this is what this weekend produced for me in a trade. I really like and want desperately to take it out and shoot it as there are bobbles in the finish already as a result of somebody in the past fondling and rubbing it.

somebody tell me it is ok to shoot it ... PLEEEEESE ... [smilie=s:

If it can be shot, shoot it.

What a beauty. As much as I hate to be an enabler...guns were meant to be shot.

DO NOT SHOOT THAT! You may be enticed to shoot more than is safe, thus placing you further in the dog-house. Ship it to me and I'll take care of the shooting needs and provide detailed results so that you may live vicariously through me.

you hit the lottery with that one. in all seriousness i would shoot it but with the very leaste smokeless powder that your guns cal. accepts. also a lot of lube that is surface friendly on it. i beside guns love the five string banjo, i have wore out a very beautiful one by playing it. it just means a new neck in the future. i could not understand putting that beautiful banjo in the closet and not playing it. its the same with that gun. if you buy or trade guns for profit only, then it is a diff. story. get a high end holster rig to go with that one plus a high end bowie knife.

Eddie Janis of Peacemaker Specialists told me that Colt takes the worst parts and puts them in commemorates because commemorates are assumed to be non shooters. I was looking at buying a commemorative as a shooter because it had the frame I wanted and he advised me to not buy it. So I wait for the Colt I ordered and have been waiting 2 years so far while I shoot my other Colt's.

I am not a good one to ask, as I have Colt shooters, and Colt Safe queens......... as the preacher said to Bart in Blazing Saddles, "you're on your own".

well did it ... shoots great ... I am very happy. this is a keeper and not just another pretty face. it has a sticky chamber in the cylinder but I was shooting a 266 grain .454 ahead of 30 grains cartridge powder from GOEX. pretty snappy load even tho not a full capable load.

next im gonna try some trailboss and maybe some unique for some lite loads.

THANKS ALL YOU ENABLERS!!! I very much agree in the premise of ... "guns are built to shoot ... not just look at". she is a doll for sure and an added benny is that this is my first real Colt '73' in second gen persuasion. im pumped.

Oh, great. You mean I should have bought that commemorative I wanted for a shooter but I let it get away? Now I have regret!

I had an NRA Centennial I bought as a shooter and it was a real dog. Never regretted trading that one off for a good SAA 7 1/2" Colt .44 Special and shoots like a house a fire.

SJH ... yepper ... she is a dandy and I have no regrets for shooting her. I AM jealous of your 44 SPC. tho ... that has to be a very nice shooter. would like to see a picture of it.

I also traded for a 5.5 inch Colt SAA in 357 mag that is a real shooter. I shot 50 21 grain BP loads thru that at the same time and she handled the BP loads very well.

fun fun fun ... this has been the single most fun trade I have done for a very long time. these Colts are almost as addictive as the BPCR I pursued for a while and which sucked my money outta me like a wayward girlfriend.

Bigted; That 7 1/2" .44 Special Colt put 5 rounds in 5 inches at 100 yards. The local gun club wrote an article on the 5 shot group. I used RCBS 44-250-K .431" 6 parts wheel weights / 4 parts Linotype and 12 gr of Blue Dot. I sold that Colt to my brother and then bought it back from him.

Today the agenda is facing off with 5 steel plates 12" diameter with a brace of .45 SAA 4 3/4" loaded with 454190 ww and 8.5 gr of Unique.

I love the smell of Alox in the morning, fun fun fun.
