Hello Friends,

I'm just sitting around waiting on this 10"-12" of snow to start falling and thinking of my next cast only gun. I'm wanting to buy a 30-30 for this and I've been looking at the NOE 311165. Curious if anyone has used this boolit? All info or suggestions is much appreciated.

FWIW

I like it, I am shooting it at .310, gc, tumble lubed over 34gr of Ramshot Big Game, I haven't chronied it but the POI at 125yds is the same as the 170gr winchester white box. Kills deer dead and leaves the barrel clean. I shoot nothing else in my 30-30's. 94 Winny/ 30as Marlin

The 311-165 was designed specifically to fill the throat of sloppy marlins. In my opinion, it is THE bullet for lever guns and specifically hunting. I've also used it in 30-06(garand) and 300blackout(ar15) and in bolt guns in 30-30. Buy with confidence.

Well, I guess a blind hog does find an acorn every now and then :) I really like the meplat on this boolit. I think I'll order me a mold as I continue to look for a rifle at my LGS and pawn shops. I prefer the old ugly shooters. :)

Thanks for the comments and confirmation.

I'd get the gun first and measure the throat and bore before you buy a mold. My son has a Marlin and a Ranch Dog design bullet like this and it flat won't work in my model 94. The nose is too short and fat. It won't feed and if it does go in the chamber then I have to squeeze hard to get the action closed because the bullet engraves heavily. Not saying it's a bad design, it's just not a match for my rifle.

I like mine. I have to trim cases a little short to get it to chamber. That doesn't bother me any. Great bullet for a 336.

Thanks for the heads up KLR. From what I've read I didn't think the bores varied that much and that I'd be safe with a .311" boolit to size down. But, I didn't think that much about the chamber. Out of curiosity, is the RD a large meplat also?

I just scored a 1954 carbine for $325 in immaculate condition. The LGS owner thought that it was ruined because it had a rubber recoil pad added. I assume that he thought that it had been cut but the fact is that it is original length and now I have to find a steel butt plate. Now to slug the barrel.

It's not the body size, it's the nose diameter. My son's mold/alloy/casting temp produced a .305 nose and my rifle has no leade and a short throat. Also in my rifle I need a max length round to feed properly.

I've been messing this for two months. It's been a learning experience.

This is his mold. On the NOE website click on the Ranch Dog link on the left side of the page. These are the bullets he designed.

That Ranch Dog bullet has worked pretty well in the .30 calibers I have used it in, but I haven't tried it in a traditional lever gun yet, only Savage 99s. It does kill well though and has been a good bullet in the rifles I have shot it in.

My 336 likes it, haven't used it on critters yet but that big meplat has worked quite well for me in other calibers.
