Years ago I purchased everything to reload for 50BMG...everything except the rifle. Tax return this year looks like enough to yield the AR-50 I've been looking at. The press package I got many moons ago was a RCBS ammomaster. Its a nice set up but I've since also purchased a Walnut hills corbin press I use for swaging which can also handle .50bmg.

I may be moving in 6 months (Girlfriend & Academic reasons) and I'm working on thinning some of the unnecessary reloading equipment I have, RCBS ammo master press being one of those peices of course....sorry but its hard to beat the Walnut hills press and its more versatile.

My question is what besides a modified (taller) priming piston do I need to be aware of if I go to load .50bmg on the Walnut hills?

Also, what is a easy way to get the 7/8x14 adapter off the top of the WH press?

You may have better luck over in the swaging section since those guys are more familiar with that press.

Did you look on the website? Richard says it's not possible. He'd know I suppose.

Yep, better hang on to that ammomaster. I don't think 50 BMG can be loaded on the Walnut Hill.

It is possible with Dave's CSP-2, though.

I've emailed Richard asking why he says that. Its threaded for the dies if you take out the 7/8x14 adapter and my shell holder threads into the ram. I'm confused what the limiting factor is. Of course you can't prime with the ram prime as is like I've mentioned but thats an easy fix.

Richards usually good about answering questions, I'll see what he says back about why he says you can't reload 50bmg on that press. I'm thinking its perhaps the gap between the ram and bottom of the dies is not enough since you have to screw the dies in so far to touch the shell holder?? we'll see

Thanks for the help guys....I wont be hasty in this decision that is for sure. I might just have to make room for it in the end perhaps.

Is there enough clearance and or travel of the ram in reloading mode? With the dies installed? I don't have my press..yet LOL.

It seemed to me there was plenty of room however being a cautious man I thought I would check here and I'm glad I did.

The reason I own both is per Richards statement. It would be nice to get rid of a press in that room but not so much as to damage my WH. By far my favorite press. Thought about getting another just for a backup.

Presses of that type do not go down in price. If you can hang onto both of them, you'll be money and marbles ahead in the long run.

When you find out fill us curious type in, something like that I would like to know why. Seems like it should work but I have no clue myself.

The Walnut Hill will NOT have enough travel to load 50BMg. It barely has enough room to size the cases, and I had to tweak the shellholder to do that. You could, I suppose, pull and then replace the die for clearance for every round, but sheesh! I do the initial resizing on the WH and do the rest on a Classic Cast.

Rock Crusher would be an excellent investment I think:
