Hello:

First off, let me introduce myself. My name is Richard, and yes, I'm a newby at casting.

I have been reloading since the 50s, started at the knee of my uncle, but never touched a mold, at least so far!

In any case, I have an aquaintance who is selling his casting equipment, and asked me if I had finally decided to give casting a try, and I thought to myself, why not. Lots of time on my hands now that I'm retired, and I guess I could always melt alway my mistakes.

The only pistols I shoot with any frequency anymore, are my .45 ACPs.

So, I was wondering if this Lyman # 452460, marked with the number 480 on the side would be suitable? It is a 4 cavity mold if that makes any difference.

Thank you,

Richard

Richard;

Let me be the first to welcome you, and to assure you that the Lyman 452460 is a truly classic design in the field of .45 semiwadcutters.

It shoots accurately in pretty near any .45 Auto I've ever tried it in, and functioning is generally also very good.

You have lucked into a real dandy for your first experiments.

The "480" digits should appear on both halves, and are used for keeping the two mould parts identified and mated during manufacture.

Welcome, sir!

Thanks guys for the warm welcome.

I guess I'll buy these things and give them a try.

I know I'll be back here asking a ton of newby questions, what lube, do I anneal, how hot should the pot get, how long does it cook, where to get the lead, ect., ect.,

I'm sure you've got the picture of just how little I know when it comes to casting!!!!

Thanks again,

Richard

This is the place for all those questions...so far I haven't seen anybody trashing newbs for "dumb" questions.

Cheers :drinks:
