help removing letters from gun please

i just got a masterpiece arms MPA30 it has a fake suppresser or as thay call it a barrel extension. i want to remove the white lettering on it with out harming the finish if anyone could please tell me if there is a trick to id be greatful thanks.

I'd try some Coleman fuel and a tooth brush first. If that doesn't work, lacquer thinner. As the finish is baked on (supposedly) the lacquer thinner shouldn't harm the finish, however you might want to try it in an inconspicuous place first.

Denatured Alcohol? I find it removes almost anything 'printed' on. Sometimes to my chagrin!

I'd think the white coloring is probably a type of paint and if the "bluing" is sure enough bluing (not paint)... I'd try some lacquer thinner and toothbrush first. If that didn't work then maybe try some paint remover for oil-based paint and toothbrush. If that didn't work then maybe a latex paint remover with toothbrush.

As has been posted, if unsure about the reaction of the blued surface to any chemical or method, it's best to try a small patch in a hidden place first.

4/0 steel wool and gun oil will most likely do the trick as well as anything else, some paint removers may leave an even darker area than already exits on a blued surface. For sure the steel wool and oil won't hurt the bluing (if it's real bluing) and should remove the paint no matter if it's baked on or not.
