I traded a 357 H&R single shot rifle, a $100.00 and a 5 gallon bucket of tire weights for it. I had $225.00 in the H&R and the tire weights were free. I know the tire weights are worth about $100.00 or a little more, that comes to about $425, that seems like a good deal to me. What do you think? I took the 92 out yesterday and shot up a few 16oz water bottles off hand, time was short so I only shot 20 rounds. The distance was from 20 to 40 yards. I don't hold as well as I did even 5 years ago and I can't see the sights as well as I used to either, but I connected about 75% of the time. I was shooting some 38 special ammo, that I loaded that I had never shot before. I loaded the 38 special brass with 3gr. of Bullseye and the little 105 gr lee SWC. They fed thru the action with out a hitch. The 92 has a 16" barrel and it has that ugly safety on the bolt, it looks brand new. I will be taking it out hopefully soon and put it on the bench and trying several different loads.

Sounds like you did pretty well and you will enjoy that rifle. I have two of them and shoot the daylights out of them. If you get tired of launching your empty's into low earth orbit stop by Ace Hardware and pick up a spring with half the wire diameter of your factory ejector spring and cut to length. Enjoy your new rifle!

Congrats, sounds like you did well. Used ones around here are going for about $450 or so. Enjoy!

I did better with both my .357 & .45 Rossi M92's after I mounted a Williams 5D-94TE (Angle-eject) peep on one, and a Skinner LoPro in the bolt-top safety hole of the other.

With either peep sight, though, a Model 92 with the bolt-top lawyer safety will need it replaced with a flat-topped plug.

I made this one from some round stock, an electric hand drill & a file.

Also, a better/cleaner sight picture will be had by removing the rear bbl open/iron sight & replace it with a slot filler blank, either bought or handmade.

I have the exact same gun. Was able to convince a top SASS gunsmith to tune it. He neutered the safety. Here is a plug to cover up the hole

and a peep sight that replaces the safety

Love my 92

'...cant keep from looking at the old Winchesters which are much higher"

If you have the $$$, makes sense. Not in my budget.

I bought a Rossi 92 .357 two months ago on gunbroker for $415. So I think you did OK. Not a steal, but OK.

Accuracy tends to be really good from most people's reviews. My 45 colt and 454 casull will shoot covers at 40-50 yards. I put on a green fiber optic front sight which helped my eyes quite a bit.

I love my Rossi 92's, both 38/357 and 45LC.

The 38 is the most accurate rifle I have for pistol-style carts. The SST version I have is fun to shoot and looks great. Shot and cycled perfectly from the 1st round. Iron sites are very accurate at 50-70 yards from by bench rest. I can do better with it than my scoped 30-30 or 223.

Good acquisition!

I think you will like it. I like my .345 and 45 colt very much.

A Rossi 92 38/357 and light 38s is a great plinking combo. Offhand at 35 yds, clay pigeons on the backstop don't stand a chance. I added the Stevesgunz peep since my eyes don't do well with iron sights any more and used his dvd to tune. A lighter extractor spring makes a big difference. I have another 92 in 44 mag that's a lot of fun, too.

Fecmech!! This one tosses the 357s up and to the right about 3 feet and down about 4 feet from my right foot. It flips the 38s up and to the right about a foot and a half very consistantly and I can catch every one of them in mid air. I also have a Rossi 92 in 45 colt. Next to my Pedersoli RB 45-70, they are my next best two fun guns.

I have one in 357/38 with the Hex barrel that shoots anything I feed it and one that's SS with a 24" barrel in 44-40. I really like them both.

Whats the accuracy potential of the 357 rossi?

Mines a Puma (pre safety) 357 and with a 140 speer HP I tested for accuracy for deer hunting in western Oregon when I first got it (little black tail coastal range deer) - after sighting in on my paper target at 100 yards, I figured I try it off hand for a bit so standing up I looked for a challenge
- some clays were on the bank at 205 meters from someone else
- well I took a rest off the vertical support of the shooting line.
Each shot hit a clay and after breaking the clays I started in working on the larger bits of clay left over...
- almost every shot hit what I was aiming at
- back when I still could see open iron sights.

I would say you can expect reasonable hunting accuracy with a Rossi 92.

The rifle I am using in my avitar is a 357 Rossi. One of the cheapest rifles I have ever bought and one of the best. They sure can gobble up ammo.
