Having my Stevens 44 1/2 (original) re-barreled in .32 Miller Short for breech seated 190 grain Barnett bullet in Douglas 1:14 twist. Anyone have any tips on loads, brass prepping, or other insight on this caliber?

Wouldn't that cartridge be a mite stout for an original Stevens? Seems it might eventually cause wear.

The Stevens 44.5 is a vertical sliding block action, like the Winchester High Wall. Plenty strong. The 44 is the weaker one.

I would strongly suggest that you also post your inquiry on the assra.com forum. Those guys have got it together when it comes to the old single shots, tons of info. GW

I understand that. But they're still not made out of 4150 or other modern high strength alloy steel. I was thinking mainly of wear on the block face and firing pin hole. That cartridge is typically run at extremely high pressure.

Great choice.. I have been to Kyle Millers shop in St Onge South Dakota .. Really a fine guy..
I am assuming he is still there. It has been over ten years since I visited him.
I would call his shop and he can point you in the right direction for loading data ..
