i haven't posted here for a wile but i do hang around a lot. i have a rem. model 8 in 35 cal. i use a rcbs 35-200 mold to cast. i have been playing with it for about a year but i can't find a load that has enough accuracy for me. it shoots about best with 3031 and h4198 i run them around 1600-1700 fps. bullets drop from my mold using straight WW at 358.5 i get little leading but i wish my boolits were a little larger. it shoots about 1-1/2 three group off rest at 50 yds. not bad but a little something missing. if someone can help me tweak it a bit i would thank you for the help.

I am able to reliably get a 3/4", 50 yd. group from my 14" Contender using the same Boolit (Gas checked).
I use #2 alloy sized to .358 and enough H4198 to drive it to 1750-1770 fps. No leading.
I found that playing with the powder charge yielded the best group...OAL didn't seem to matter as much.
Good Luck.

Bowhunter, Do you get better groups with jacketed in your model 8?
1 1/2" at 50 yds is about all the better mine does with jacketed.
I bought the rcbs 35-200 mold to see if I can tighten my groups but my barrel throat is too short. I have to seat the boolit so deep that I can't get a good crimp on it.
I still have quite a bit of work to do with this rifle too, if I want this gun/boolit combo to be my deer getter next year.

not actually, that is about the best with jackets also, maybe a tad better than cast. but i have three more. a 25 rem. i shoot with j boolits it is deadly accurate. a 30 rem. and a 32 rem. they to will shoot better than the 35. my 35 has a short throat also, i had to trim the brass back to stop the boolit from engaging deep into the lands. maybe 1 1/2 that's all it is capable of doing. but basing it on the performance of the others i have i just think it can do a little better.

i just got back inside from my range, here at home. i went to 34 gr. of imr 3031 with the same boolit, and that did the trick. constant 1/2-3/4 in group. i think i found my load.

Nice!
How far did you have to trim your brass back to get the round to chamber?
I was thinking about cutting the throat deeper but would like to avoid that.

i had to trim it to 1.860 that is a good bit, nut it works good with no ill effects.

Have you tried using benchrest/match primers. I seem to get groups to tighten up with them when nothing else works.

I use 20 gr 4227 on a 190gr lyman. can't find my velocity, must have misplaced my chart, but it was shooting 2" at 100 yrd
