So I've got a few pounds, tried loading some 44 mag CB plinking loads, but like everyone knows it meters poorly. Has anyone found the "secret" to dropping consistent charges of 800X? I use an RCBS powder measure, but also have a Hornady and a set of Lee dippers.

I use a lot of 800x in my SBH. Unfortunately, the autodisk on my Lee turret press just doesnt throw charges consistently. So I use hand dippers made from brass cases cut to the desired length. No biggie for me since I am in no hurry to crank out rounds. Slow and easy suits me just fine.

It is a good powder and I love it i 44 mag, however I weigh each charge from my Dillon.

I tapped on the body of the powder measure with my finger tip to settle the powder as the measure filled the measuring chamber then dropped it. That was the only way I got consistent measures.
Done that way I got weights within .1 grains.

Tazman, now that's a thought. Will give that a go, need to get the summer inventory for my 44mag lever gun loaded and planning on using 800X for that purpose. I plan on working these loads up over the next few weeks.

I started at 10 grains and moved on up in my 44 mag when I was using it there.
it makes some super nice steel shot loads, so I quit burning it up in the handgun rounds.

It does meter somewhat like cooked spaghetti but I love it anyway. I use the LEE dippers and since I'm not loading in large quantities anymore having quit competitive shooting it's just fine. I use one load in all my 45ACP bullet weights from 185 grains to 230 grains. It's my miracle powder for my 1944 vintage 1911A1. Haven't tried it yet in my 1973 Ruger SBH yet but the loading manuals show almost top velocity with much less powder than the super slow burning powders.

IMR 800-X is one of my favorite powders in medium sized handgun cartridges with jacketed bullets. It's very accurate with full power loads. I weigh out all my charges though on a Lyman DPS 1200 digital powder dispenser. This is also, however, about the only powder I've used that actually "bridges" in coming out of the shoot on the DPS 1200's powder hopper.
