That's what VISA cards are for , that way you have thirty days to come up with the cash ;-) Or maybe there's a lay-away plan ?

Looks like it is the Maxum shotgun powder.

What is he asking for a drum?

Well, a little backtracing of the HTML and I came up with this:

http://www.ksl.com/index.php?nid=218&ad=33348967&cat=655&lpid=1&search=&ad_cid=12

Maxam CSB-1 for $19.95 per pound, have to buy full (i.e. 55 lb) kegs.

When I was in high school (1960) my buddie and I went together and bought a keg of mil surplus 4831. Arrived via Santa Fe freight. I can't remember if it was 100lbs, 50 each or 50 total, but we were good for 15 years or so. I have no idea what it cost but was really cheap, probably under .50 cents per pound. Shot thousands through my M70 243 with Herters 70 gr HP, as well as a lot of army surplus rifles.

$50 in 1960 would be nearly $400 in today's money.

what's the burn rate of the csb-1?
if it's close to red-dot I might have to come down and get one of these.

I was thinking of buying some from hi-tech a while back and they said it was similar to Universal.

There are a few threads with data for that powder on this site. Several people have been testing it.

I imagine you'd get a pretty good bulk discount for buying 55lbs at a time. The price/lb of even the 8lb jugs is usually considerably less than the 1 lb'ers.

Sounds like an excellent opportunity for a group-buy!

$20/lb in large quantity??????

Doesn't seem like any sort of a bargain at that price. I can get TG at that
price or maybe +10% at my LGS in 1 lb bottles.

Yeah, not a big price cut, but sure an awful lot of powder!

Lamar, if you are serious, I'd be willing to pick it up for you and store it until you could make it down.

The ad clearly states "make an offer". That is what I would do

I appreciate the offer Brandon...

for a powder in the burn rate of unique/universal I am good.
I have about 50 pounds of that already.
I would be all over something closer to red-dot though, it fits in better with my long term strategy [and 12ga shot-shell applications are part of that]

I buy Alliant Promo (basically Red Dot, but without the red specks). It's $103 / 8 lbs, so $12.88 per pound if Powder Valley has it in stock. It's a bit fast for some of the very top speed loads in some calibers (e.g. 10mm, .460 Rowland), but as a general powder that can be used in a lot of things, it works well enough. It doesn't work in .300 AAC though if you want it to actually eject your brass. If I lived nearby and it was close to Promo in price, I might consider it.

Run, that powder, IS, IIRC, closer to Red Dot than it is to Universal. It's supposed to be mainly for 12 ga. 1 & 1 1/8 oz. shotgun loads. The data will vary slightly, but isn't that far off, IIRC. I think it's made by Rio, and has come on our market to help alleviate the powder shortages we're experiencing. I've no experience with it, but those who have seem very satisfied, saying it's cleaner burning than Red Dot and lots of other more traditional powders. Don't have a clue how it'd do at above shotgun level pressures, though. This is all I've got to give, and I know it's not much, but thought it might help at least a little.

I think it's made by Rio

From what I've gathered, it appears that Maxam is the parent company and Rio is a sub-company that produces ammo that utilizes the parent company's powder.

That was my thought as well. Prefer a powder I know and the convenience of smaller containers.

If it was $8-10 per pound and I could buy it locally (so no shipping and no HAZMAT), I would consider it.
