I killed a squirrel today with a cast from my Rossi 92 45 colt.Cast was 255 grain rfp shot the squirrel about 75 yds and it didn't tear it up near like I thought it would.big hole going in and a larger coming out. This was ww water dropped over 10.2 grains of H6.I think I am going to carry this load as it should also do a fine job on some of the porkers we have around.

That was a good shot! Squirrels are small targets at that range. Sounds like you have a very accurate load for that rifle and hogs should be no problem!

Are you sure you hit the squirrel, after all with that much mass it could have just been "wind" damage.[smilie=f:

It didn't do the damage I thought it and yes that Rossi shoots pretty accurate about an inche at 75 yrds.I did cheat and held the gun up against a prop.I missed him the first shot and got hi the next time right behind the rib cage and he was sitting still.

0le Davey Crockett used to ''bark'' squirrels with 0le Betsey... Sure that aint what you did with your Rossi rifle???

Ifin that 45 slug was screamin at 3000 fps, you'd be seein a bit-o-red mist. Crank that puppy up!

Go for it! Piggies generally eat better than tree rats anyway. Some of those old boar squirrels can be pretty tough but at least they don't smell as bad as an old boar hog.

Good morning
Well done ! Popping squirrels at 75 yards is a challenge. And you certainly used enough gun. I would do the same by the way. 45 Colt is hard to beat !
I would certainly use"a prop". Read a statement in an old biography ( I forget who ) but the statement was Only a fool would stand on his hind feet to shoot when he can lean against a tree. I try to follow that good advice in all my hunting. The old Marine Corps adage about rest also applies to shooting..." Never stand when you can kneel: never kneel when you can sit: never sit when you can lay down". I also carry cross sticks when I know I will be sitting awhile watching to bushwack critters.
