It is nice seeing these posts come up every day or so now. One of these days(soon?) everyone will be stocked back up and the powder will actually sit there a while. Lots of powder coming in the last few weeks, especially the once hard to find pistol powders.

Re: Haz-Mat Fee

"Orders containing DOT classified hazardous materials, such as powder or primers, will be charged an extra $27.50 hazardous charge. Powder and primers can ship together and will only be charged one fee. We can no longer offer hazardous discounts on large orders. "

Yes I am aware of what HazMat is, as I order powder online and it is less expensive than retail where I live.

We all know you have to pay a HazMat fee when having powder shipped to you. Order as much as you can afford to spread the cost out. If you can't get it locally then you pay the fee or go w/out. Even w/ shipping and hazmat the price is usually cheaper then locally.

Actually, waiving the Haz-Mat fee for a large enough order goes on more than you think,,,,ala gibrass.com. Graf's used to do it if you bought 16 pounds.

Jeff Bartlett is the only one I've seen wave the fee as of late. I'm not happy about paying it. But for a lot of people it's pay it and keep shooting. Or don't pay it and have none to shoot. That fee won't be going away so unfortunately we have to live w/ it.

The fee doesn't bother me. If $28.50 is going to break your bankroll, then you really need to re-evaluate your financial standing and priorities.

I tend to agree. Sucks...but until local supply returns, this is life as we know it.

Even with the fee, I save $$$ over paying 8% sales tax and local prices which are quite high

I paid 30.00 after tax for one pound of HS6 here in Reno, then I ordered a keg of 800x from 3rd Gen for 170 total, do the math. Retailers here have raised their pricing because they know we pay hazmats.

If you don't order 1lb online but instead order 8lbs then the hazmat and shipping spread over the powder seems to come in at the same price as a local shop or cheaper. This is for powder that you can buy not some that may come in at your lgs in the next year or so. I just bought 8lbs of Promo for $111 and a sleeve of primers. All told it came out ok for me.

I have done "Group Buys" with a couple of friends when we buy powder. When you buy a large quantity (say three 8.0 lbs caddies) along with several thousand primers, then the hazmat fee becomes pretty insignificant as a "per unit" cost. Plus, all of the friends share the cost.

Works for me...

All the best,
Dale
