Where's the serial number on Colt Pistols?

A friend has a Colt 9mm Model 3000 pistol that he got at a gun show. He wants to record the serial number for his records and can't find any! Does anyone know where they hide those things nowadays?

Is it the 2000? - aluminum frame or Polymer

Artful, I called him and it's a model 2000, possibly with an aluminum frame. He says it looks like metal.

Here's a Colt 2000, with the SN stamped into the forward RH side of the frame.
