Purchased this mold in 1974-75 if memory serves. Fired the bullet for several years in a Ruger SBH with great results. Using 21 grains of 2400 & a CCI 350 primer groups ran 1 1/2" @ 25 yards. No groundhog was safe in those days. Any way I began reading the experts of that time declaring what a real Keith bullet was & found out I was shooting a dud though my first boar didn't think so.

If you look at the pictures take note of the front driving band. We hear said the Keith bullet was ruined by folks like Lyman narrowing it from .100 to .090. Well they really ruined this one. The band is very narrow. If I had read the experts before the purchase, this one would have stayed on the shelf.

But I didn't read before using the bullet. After a few years I found in print this bullet was a dud but too late to convince this ole boy. So I went on to prove what Mr. Keith said about shooting longer ranges with a sixgun was true. Enjoy the pictures & if you want this mold check Swappin & Sellin.

And did I mention the lube groove is rounded?

That mould is used? How the heck did you get it that clean? That looks new!

Oh, I don't need it. I have one just like it, except mine is dirty.

Nice mould, always enjoy pouring tributes to Uncle Elmer. I keep forgetting I own a .43 but not planning on casting for it anytime soon.

Is the mold for sale or trade? Are you selling it? How much? For most people it will work fine. If cheap enough I would send to Erik and have inset bar HP conversion done and tweak some dimensions. Give me a number!

I pick up the old Ideal 429421s every chance I get. My last one had equal width driving bands, square grease groove, an the proper length nose, but the front driving band was of the smaller diameter (.428). It sat around for a while because I was sad, then a guy I worked with almost fainted when I showed it to him. Price was no object! He forced money in my hand, and I threw in a set of period correct handles for it. It still had to be from the early thirties. I have an early 358439 just like it, except for the hollowpoint of course. The 358439 is still neat though, it casts .360 on the two rear bands, and .357 on the front. I have a thing for original era Keith moulds.

I have an image of one like it in 4 cav. I always wondered how well it would work.

The issue of the short front band is more lead in the case, so less volume for powder,
and longer jump to the throat where the boolit is supported as it leaves the case.

I have that same bullet in a 4 cav that I bought back in the early 70's and a HP mold that I hunted woodchucks with. With max loads of 296 I managed to average in the low 30's in Silhouette with my Super Blackhawk so it was a pretty accurate bullet. The longer range shots on woodchucks were neat because you would hear that big slug slap when you hit the chuck. There was also a fair amount of damage from a 30/1 alloy HP bullet!

I have that exact mould in a single cavity, factory hollow point. Rounded groove and all. It shoots an honest 2 MOA out to 200 yards with 19.3 grains of 2400, 16:1 alloy, and Federal standard LP primers. That's with an Ultradot. No plans to ever get rid of that mould.

Heh, I've read that too, I used the 429421 for years & still do it's a good bullet. Looking back at some of Mr. Keiths articles, lyman did shorten the front driving band & rounded the bottom of the lube groove. They still shoot & I've put a couple of animals down with them.

I looked at the RCBS 44-250-K & it's a beautiful mould & throws a bullet that is the Keith bullet if you believe all the press. My Wife bought me one for Christmas a couple of years ago, it throws a beautiful bullet that is accurate, easy to cast, & is a pleasure to shoot.
Will I throw away my old Lyman????? NOT ON A BET, it still shoots accuratly, is easy to cast, & is generally a great bullet. Now I've got two moulds to rotate after they come up to temp. & I'm not having to wait for one mould to cool before I strike the sprue plate so I don't smear the sprue. ;) I just rotate the moulds & bingo I cast more bullets per session!!!! Love it.
