I was reading “You can’t shoot that in a 1911” and checked Love Life’s link http://www.americanrifleman.org/arti...all-cartridge/
Testing The Army’s M855A1 Standard Ball Cartridge. I noticed this statement.

“Its No. 41 primer is identical to the M855’s, but uses a stab crimp rather than the common circumferential crimp, apparently to better withstand the new load’s higher chamber pressure.”

My last trip to the range I picked up all the center fire brass I could find:smile: and found about 50 of these::?:

NATO LC13 with stab crimped in primers. First time I have seen this system on LC brass. There was a noticeable difference in pressure required to push out these primers. Could these be from the new ball cartridge?

Has anyone reloaded any with this style primer crimp?

Yea I have

A Dillon primer pocket swager is a great tool if you want to load those

Not a cheap made tool that I have used on .....probely 10K+ of both small and large crimped primers
Boy do I wish I had not sold so much brass years ago

Does the swage rod do a good job of smoothing out the radius area? I run a 1050 but have never run brass crimped that way.

I have done a lot of these with a RCBS primer pocket swager on a Rock Chucker press. They loaded and shot fine.

One thing I have noticed with stab cimped primers is swaging is the perfered method as the inital interupted cut with a chamfering tool or reamer chatters and is much harder to get a smooth even cut. Ironing it out with a swage mounted in a press gives better support and alighnment, this makes for a much smoother finish.

Johnch, Plate Plinker, ioon44 and country gent thanks for your replies. I tried reaming one pocket not easy to do. I will finally have to buy a pocket swager.:-( Doing things on the cheap does not always workout.

I have cleaned up some stab crimped primer pockets. I treat them just like a "regular" circular crimp; remove with a $10.00, 1/2", 60 degree counter sink. Greek HXP ammo has stab crimps but most are fairly light. After cutting out the crimp, they are loaded just like any other brass...

Could those be factory reloads that have been stab crimped?
I have seen R-P brass that was factory reloaded that had crimped primers.....dale

129381A #2 center bit with a 1/4" collar placed in a drill press makes quick work of stab crimps...just completed 3K..
