my wife told me to use a small amount of cigarette ash to remove the carbon on the front of my cylinder
and it worked in seconds.
i then used a toothpick broken in half to reach the recesses and the tip of toothpick for the tiny spots
cleaned everything with DE-chloronated brake cleaner and alcohol

removed the grips and lightly oiled everything using compressed air to push the oil into the farthest reaches of the mechanism of the gun.
waxed it
and here she is

it is the nicest gun i have ever and maybe will ever own
fantastic shooter and accurate with everything i have ever fed her
i only shoot lead in it.
i hate cleaning it because it takes about 1 1/2 hours to get it spotless.
but every time after i am done i realize how pretty it is.

Very nice and a great tip on the ash. Only problem for me would be that I'd have to start smoking again . . . and then the wife would take the handgun and use it on me for starting up again - kicked the habit close to thirty years ago . . now can't stand the smell.

Enjoy that Smith - she's a beauty!

Looks great! Nothing like a perfectly clean gun. It takes time, but is worth it!

I worked for an old timer that always used ash from his smokes to wipe clean dry erase boards. You know how sometimes the marker doesn't want to wipe clean? A bit of ash on a cloth always took it off. Never thought of using it on guns. Good tip!

Are you planning to sell the gun? If not, why that much work to clean it if it will just be shot again.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I am now selling pure cigarette ash. It comes entirely from Marlboro lights, that I purchase, and smoke myself. Quality all the way and you know exactly where it came from!!

I'm asking $3,000+ shipping per each tiny bag full of ash.

Thank you for your consideration of my fine product and I hope you all have a nice evening!

Yes, those nickel Smiths are pretty guns. I have one in .44. But I kind of like the black stuff on the front of the cylinder. Shows its a shooter!
