My run of good luck lately has been almost unbelievable. I swapped the city a cast iron sash weight for a large chunk of lead they were using for a weight on a cable:mrgreen:. While I was doing that one of the city workers told me of an individual that had a bunch of gunpowder for sale, but everyone was afraid of it because it was old. I went to check it out and got 23 lbs. H4831 for $50, what the last guy had offered and then backed out when he learned that it had been sitting in the garage for 25 or more years. It was in a 50 lb. cardboard keg marked Hodgdon 4831 and 50 pounds crossed out and marked 23 lbs. This container was in an old 50 lb. metal shortening can, both containers sealed. The powder looks as good as the newest can I have with no hint of red dust or color and smells like new powder. Visually the same as IMR 4831, but I will start low and work up as always. WOW! I feel good! DALE BTW, checked the weight on scales and the 23 lbs appears to be right on if allowing a couple pounds for the keg.

Last time I bought 4831 from Hodgon's, it was $ 44.00 for a 100 lbs delivered. I was 16 years old and had to ask my father to help me retrieve it at the railroad terminal. I bought 2 kegs then, and when he found out what it was he laid the law down to me. It was in 1966, and I still have some of it stashed away.

Worked up some loads in 257 Weatherby today. 100 gr. Sierra boattail SP. CCI 250 primer.Start load was 64 gr., went to 65 -66-67-68. Primers progressively got flatter, but no other signs of pressure. Loaded up 20 with 66 gr. to take to the range, hopefully this week end. DALE

Jerry: I have five sons already, five brothers, and two daughter-in-laws that hunt and shoot, so you'd be way down the line in hand-me-downs. LOL DALE
