ruger 3 screw blackhawk value

Whats the going rate for a very good condition 3 screw blackhawk? Its not the flat top, but rather the one with the rear sight "ears". It also hasnt been converted. The local gunshop has one for $499 but he likes to deal... What would be a fair price? This gun is calling my name, the trigger is so nice and the action is very smooth.

I assume it's a .357...? If so, 4-5/8" or 6.5" barrel? That's probably a little high for a 6.5" .357. If it's a caliber that starts with "4" then I'd say that is a good deal.

that is at the top of the price range for that model. does it have a hyphen in the serial number? as in xx-xxxx. if so it was made in 69 or later if not it is a 68 or older. if it has the hyphen I would try to haggle a little. if not buy it as is.

No hyphen, it was something around 684xx if I remember correctly.

Yep, #684xx will be from 1965. At $499, it's not a barn burner deal, but remember, it was made before the safety transfer bar system, AND that adds value to most folks. Then, compare it to the cost of a NM Blackhawk, and that will help decide.
If the dealer likes to haggle, then go in with cash, and start at $400 & see if he'll bite. But even if you pay close to the $499, you'll still have a nice sixgun to enjoy!

i would say that if it is a good example and has not been converted, then its a fair price. Age does not always equate to value and with no box or papers the value will take a hit.

If It looked good I would be a buyer around $400-$450. If it was in really good condition and it was one I had been looking for I might go asking price as it is right there right now. Lifes too short to lose the gun you like over $50. Plus the guy needs to make a living so he is there when you want to get your next gun.

That would be about what I'd expect to pay hereabouts for a nice shooter 3 screw. A really clean one would go for closer to 6 bills in this neck of the woods.

Start out at $250 and see if he will meet you in the middle $375. Bring $375 in cash money, some times cold hard cash makes a difference. Tuck an extra $100 in cash away just in cash just in case the "siren's song " is too irresistible and he's a good horse trader. $475 cash money should make the deal. I would do it if the gun is in decent shape, no rusty pits etc.

A $250 offer would be a terrible insult and I wouldn't even attempt that. It's a $400 gun all day long. $450 if you want it bad enough but not a penny more. The ones on gunbroker for $500 aren't selling. Take four $100 bills and tell him that's all you can afford. Money talks.

Im hoping its still there Saturday when I can get back over to the gunshop. Ive bought many guns from them over the years and they've always treated me right on the deals. Im willing to go $450 on it or maybe see if he wants to trade for a Marlin waffle top Id like to sell. Thanks for all the help everyone, you guys are the most helpful people online!

I just sold a 6 1/2" .357 non converted 3 screw non flattop with a premium El Paso Saddlery holster for $450.00. The gun was in nice shape and shot well. The 4 3/4" non flattops are more desirable than the 6 1/2" and therefore bring at least another $50.00. There was a 4 3/4" non flattop 3 screw not converted hanging on a stick on the wall of a local gunshop for $389.00. It's home now and shoots well. I had bought another 4 3/4" non flattop .357, I can't remember if I paid $450 or $500 for it. Oh, that 6 1/2" inch I sold, I paid $400.00 for it. Sold it because my son now has a brace of matching 4 3/4" .357's.

I haven't seen a 3 screw at any of our gun shows for less than $500 in several years, The days of the $250 to $300 ones are gone.

I don't use gunshows as a reference for values. Way too many guys just like to show up and display their collection without really planning on selling anything unless they find some sucker to pay their ridiculous asking price. One guy I see at every gun show always shows up with the same table of stuff and his inventory never changes. I guess everyone needs something to do in retirement.
