I cast up some 00 and #4 buck shot from the combination mold. I looked at the BPI buck shot reloading manual and decided to go with the standard 9 Double 00 buck shot per shell.

The powder was HS6 at 29.5 grains with the Double 00 stacked in 3 groups of 3.

The wads are some Pacific wads I have had for many years. I cut the pedals off so the shot would stack properly.

I used these wads to load 1 1/8 ounce lead in AA hulls many years ago, I wanted to uses these hulls since I have too many.

I rolled the shot in a rock tumbler to get the shot more round and to round off the flat spot where the shot was cut from the spruce.

I coated the shot with the HI-TECH gold colored coating from Bayou Bullets.

The coating is thick and was done on a cold day where a heat gun was used to help evaporate the acetone in the coating.

The heat gun needs to be back about a foot from the coated shot and moved around so as not to boil the acetone.

The hulls are the Remington Gun Club that I purchase from a member of the forum.

The crimp is fair but to keep the crimp, I roll the crimp a little with a roll crimping tool in a battery powered hand drill.

The folded crimp and the little rolling seems to make the crimp tight and should allow for a good burn of the slow HS6 powder.

I also coated the #4 buck shot and will load that next once I figure up a good stacking height for a good crimp.

I have a bunch of RIO hulls and will try to use this hull for the #4 buck shot.

I always go a little light on the powder since the shells will not be used for hunting.

My wife likes to shot so I try to keep the recoil down.

Look pretty good. If you use your RIO hulls you will need to use RIO primers or use a primer pocket tool. FB

You can use the Rio, Fiocchi, or Cheddite primers on the "foreign" hulls.

I have some of the Cheddite primers. I have used the Rio hulls for some other buck shot loads.

The Rio hull with the straight side on the internal bore works well for buck shot loads.
Sometimes the internal volume of the Rio hull is difficult to get a good height of the load to get a proper folded crimp.

The tool for shrinking the primer pockets, I copied one using the lathe. The tool works well for making the ID of the primer pocket smaller. I borrowed the tool and made a copy from Grade 8 bolt material.

As for primers there is regular 209 and there is European ones that is I think a little smaller. I do not have my papers that say what the size are.but there is some hulls that is not made here in the US that you need to check the OD for the primers.

"...there is regular 209 and there is European ones that is I think a little smaller."

If you look at the chart I posted in #3, it is the opposite, Euro primers are .242" and U.S. primers are .241"

The Noble sports run big too.

Yup---Rios are the biggest, followed by Nobel Sport, then Fiocchi. Newer Cheddite primers (CX2000, IIRC) are very close to American size, so they're a good choice if you're looking for a cheap import that won't stretch out your primer pockets. However, some of the pre-primed Cheddite hulls sold by BPI and others have the larger Euro-size primer in them, so you'll need to use something like a Fiocchi 616 to re-prime when reloading these.

Or resize the primer pocket with resizing tool to accept smaller primers.

...fold crimp, no buffer, no shotcup:

"Buckshot is called buckshot because the large pellet size was intended for deer (or buck) hunting. Buckshot has now adopted a meaning for any pellet size over .190” in diameter."

Tried some 8 pellet loads in a wad. Some with buffer some without may have to go back and try some without a wad and just a gas seal.

Tried the RIO hulls this weekend the Cheddite 209 primers fell out of the RIO hulls, had to resize the RIO primer pocket for the Cheddite 209 primers to fit tightly. This added a step but will hit all of the RIO primer pockets with the primer pocket tool to make sure the primers fit snuggly.

Will be working up a load for the #4 buck shot in the RIO hulls.
