I have a H&R 38 55 target model and I shoot cast in it normally but I have about 200 30 Herret cases from older days and today I ran a 375 H&H expander ball through them to open the necks back up. So now I have 200 1.6 inch 38 55 cases. My question is this; My desire is to shoot 379 cast ball at a low velocity for a plinking round. If anybody could shed some light on this I would appreciate it.

Hawk, you might want to do a search on "Cat-sneeze Loads". I think there are also a couple others on favorite reduced loads, etc. Or just pour some up, roll them in Lee Liquid Ear Wax, seat them in a case mouth over about 3 gr of Bullseye or so and see how they do.

Should work all right...... With the amount of powder used with RB loads, they should shoot even better than FL cases.

See Castpics for some .38-55 data on RB loads./beagle

Hawk,

I've been experimenting with a similar project. Mine is shooting a .311 round ball from a .308 rifle. I have found that the neck tension MUST hold the ball for any kind of consistancy.

I will post more information later today - need to get my loading info in front of me. I have most all information except velocity.

I am currently looking for a source of .380 round balls, I guess my only choice for now is to order a mold from Midway and they don't have one right now

Lee has a .380 double cavity round ball mold.... I usually buy my Lee equipment from
http://www.factorysales.com/ - the Lee part number is 90423 and their price is right at $19.00, also available from Cabelas
