I found what was described as a old model blackhawk 41 and 44 target grips. From what I can figure, an xr3 is an xr3, and it should fit my 1969 old model blackhawk 357. Could anyone here back me up on that?

the part I am not sure about is that I believe they made larger frames for the 44, and I don't know if that will affect the grips, which are Herret RX grips I believe.

Some good info here:

I saw that link, that's why I said I was unsure because I didn't know if the 44 frame makes a difference compared to the 357 frame in the old models as far as grip compatability.

Silverado, I have both 357 and 44 Flat Tops - the XR3 grip frames are identical, have even swapped them to newer 3-screw models. Colt SAA stocks will often fit, too

Also my gun has an xr3 frame. I tried to copy a URL on my phone for the actual grips, but can't get it to work. Here is a screen shot of the description if anybody could help me figure this out.
I saw elsewhere online that an xr3 grip may not be compatability with an xr3-red grip frame

Thanks a whole lot. I think I may be getting some new target grips soon to save wear on my 46 year old originals [emoji3]

The XR-3 grip frame came out in 1954 and was used on all but Super Blackhawks up to 1962, when they came out with the XR-3RED (RED is for Redesigned). The Super's had a larger grip frame with a square back trigger guard, so it was unique to that model. If your gun was made in 1969 it should have the XR-3RED, unless it was replaced, and the grips are definitely not interchangeable between the two.

Thanks for that post. I was still kind of uncertain.

I was about to post info, but I see McLintock has done what I was going to do. He is correct.
And, another note. If you remove your grips, look at the grip frame closely. It should be marked; XR3 or XR3-RED. That will help. The Dragoon styled grip frames usually aren't marked, unless they are brass.
