Is that what they are called? Well, I need one. Tired of marring and ruining sights with a punch and hammer. on my pistols and rilfes
I don't have a place to put a vise, so that is not an option.
Any suggestions?

I just bought the B&J Machine P500 Pro Universal Front and Rear Sight Tool from MidwayUSA but it just arrived and I haven't tried to use it yet

Use a Nylon or maybe even a brass punch.

I had the problem of sight pushing on my 1917's until I got a tip to use the one made for the SKS. It didn't fit until I started filing the opening to be larger...then it worked. Considerably cheaper compared to some of the fancy ones shown in he Midway catalog. LLS

.

I long ago bought a Williams Sight Pusher, which has saved an untold number of guns from marred sights and/or sight ramps (I'm forever changing the sights on rifles I buy to fiber-optic sights) - BUT it's of no use for sights mounted directly in a barrel or slide dovetail, only on ramp-mounted sights.

Well, I think I have found one. Its from Fisher Solutions. I will review it when it comes in.

I would and have tried the nylon punch, but I do not have a steady place to be tapping or banging away on the slide and it be secure. I live in an apartment and don't have a place for a vise, but looking into one ASAP.

Where there's a will, there's a way...................................

FWIW, many years ago, when I was an apartment dweller, I mounted a small vise securely to a 12" long 2x6 plank - which was kept in a closet until needed.

I just used a huge C-clamp to temporarily hold the plank & vise to the kitchen table.

True. I did go to Harbor Freight and picked up one. But still hoping for the sight pusher to work out.

I got one on ebay, works very well for semiauto pistols. It is
set up for 1911s but works pretty well for others. Have not tried
on a round rifle barrel, it would require a set of round (oak?)
blocks to be made, but should not be too difficult.

It is made out of a piece of 2.5" or so square tube, with aluminum
inserts and a pusher threaded across it. Simple and effective, and
affordable.

Another option to mount a vise might be the Lee Bench Plate?? If your loading you migt be able to convert your loading Bench into a multi tasker with this item?? Just a thought??

I've got two. One for the Sig P220 45 ACP and the other for the S&W Shield 40. They work great, except they are pricey. Mine are from Maryland Gun Works. Don't know why they call themselves that since they are in Augusta, Ga (unless they moved for the golf?). Well made and robust tool. Allow very minute adjustments.

Did I say they were pricey?

This is the model I have, works well. This has extra adaptor blocks
that I do not have.

I bought the XL pusher from Fisher Solutions. It's their deluxe model @ $93 ppd. It has all the blocks and shims to cover virtually any dovetail handgun sight. Probably can do most rifle sights also with a little creativity. it works real nice. www.sightpusher.com They have cheaper and slightly smaller sight pushers also, that are dedicated to specific types of handguns.
