Guys -

I bought some IMR 700 X from a web vendor. When it arrived, it was Hogdgon 700 X. I'm assuming 700 X is 700 X, and that this is just a name change of companies. My reloading manual specifies IMR 700 X, but that may have just been the name of the company at the time the manual was published.

Am I correct in that these are the same powders and that 700 X is 700 X?

Thanks,

Bayou52

I can't imagine there would be any difference, although an email to Hodgdon would confirm it. Both Hodgdon and IMR labeled containers say Hi-Skor 700-X and the loading data on Hodgdon's web site all says IMR 700-X. I have only recently heard of 700-X being branded by Hodgdon. It has always been an IMR powder as far as I have known.

Yes, calling Hogdgon is best. And I've already called this morning, but wouldn't you know it, they are closed on Friday. I was hoping to do some reloading with this powder over the weekend, but maybe not. I'll call Monday..........

If both are made in Canada it's the same stuff. Look on the label.

I heard Chris Hodgden say in an interview about a year ago that all their rifle powders were slowly going to be marketed under the IMR label and all pistol powders would be marketed under the Hodgden label. I believe the Winchester powders were going to remain the same.

what the hell?
I like some of hodgdons powders and some of imr's for a reason.
if they go making 4831 imr type instead of the H-short cut type, or imr 4895 into H-4895 that will jack... holy cow what a mess.

in this case imr-700x is the same as the hodgdons marked 700-x. [actually called high-score 700-x from the
du-pont day's]
I just checked a couple of new jugs I bought recently against some early 90's production 700-x I have, and i can't tell them apart.

Well its a corporation and for the sake of saving money why make two 4895s?
I get it and I dont like it.

I get it too but man they are enough different I'd go into panic mode if I couldn't get imr-4895.
it's about the only imr powder I actually use.

I agree, I love imr4895 but have been looking to get a pound of h4895 to test errr "get acquainted"

I just got off the phone with a Hogdgon company rep. He confirmed that IMR 700 X is exactly the same powder as Hogdgon 700 X. It was a name and labeling change only.

Thanks, All

I have the H-type here it was the one I started with actually.
it seems to burn faster in the smaller mouthed[22] cases, it's pretty close to even in the 30 cals, and swaps back and forth in between the two sizes.
if it's H-type or nothing i'll swap over to accurates or alliants equivalent.

I have heard it was faster and yet it is the "same".
