the title says it all.

i see all this coating action and almost zero speed and accuracy mentioned. would like to see some actual numbers from other members.

i am epoxy coating 308 win. i am looking for an accurate 800 yd load not giving away too much velocity vs jword projectiles.

currently my best (fast) load is vht coated 169gr rn 40gr h380 2565 fps 2.675 oal 1.6 moa @ 100yds.

zero leading

my most accurate load is vht coated 169gr rn 24gr 4227 2110 fps 2.675 oal .7 moa @ 100 yds.

zero leading

if i could get 2400 fps out of the 4227 and maintain the accuracy i would be a happy camper :)

a snowstorm is here so no shooting tomorrow.

i'll prep brass and cast till the snow quits

so, any one else having success with a faster coated rifle load?

I presently PC for only two calibers. 9MM Luger in a S&W M&P and .223 Rem. in AR-15. Neither one is a tack driver but they shoot well enough for 3-gun. (3 MOA) .223 is going 2500 fps with 55gr. boolit W/GC and 21.5 gr. AA2520. Only coated 9MM to eliminate leading.

try 335 or 4895 in the 308. I think the 4227 is too fast for the 308.

well, snow or no snow i shot today :)
most accurate load so far. 38gr imr 4064 169gr fn vht coated several 5 shot groups .6moa @ 100.
chrono's avg of 2402 through my 26" barrell. zero leading. after hitting this load i fired 8, 5 shot groups using it. all the groups were .6 moa, bore is VERY clean.

i think i will park on this load for a while and see how it holds up out to 800 yds.

as a side note, i consistantly get higher FPS with these vht coated loads using the same charge/oal than i do with my 169 gr j words.

hopefully i can shoot late tomorrow.

Can you shoot your .308 loads without GC or do still have to use them.

Take Care

this particular boolit is more accurate with a gc

there is zero leading with or without the gc

it only affects accuracy in my load

+1 on 4895 powder IMR brand anyways should be at home in your 308 just as well as it is in my 30/06 . That's what I'm using in my M1 Garand with a PC gas checked Lee Boolit that weighs 174gr and I am very close to J word velocities now. I'm getting some impressive performance from the them, I'm going to do some serious accuracy testing when the weather gets better and all the mud starts to dry up. I never used H 4895. Their close to the same though. I made a post down the list if you want to go check it out about the surprising performance I got from them. I've been playing with powder coating for close to about maybe 8 months but just recently got serious putting it through its paces. Im impressed would be putting it mildly. If you want speeds faster than 2100, 2200fps with decent accuracy powder coating is probably the quickest way to do it.
Extreme accuracy though I would say paper patching would win hands down!
