After coming to the conclusion that the scope (Weaver 2.5) on my Henry was mounted too high, I got my hands on a set of lower rings supplied by another forum member and installed a couple of days ago. The improvement was impressive although I do need to adjust the eye relief as I didn't get it set correctly which is causing me to not be able to consistently hit the stock with my cheek in the same spot. Once that's done I think I might just be able to get this thing to shoot the way I'd like with the little scope on it.

Gun: Henry H009B
Boolit: 311041 sized .310 GC'd, lubed with NRA 50/50
Powder: IMR 4198 18.0gr w/.5gr Dacron filler.

Images below are 50 yds and 100 yds. The 50 yd target didn't look too shabby but things apparently fell apart before the boolit got to the 100 yard one. This is the load which Lyman states they got their best accuracy and it chronographed out at 1,636 fps. Lyman states that this load yielded 1,602 fps on their data so I'm pretty happy with the closeness to the published speed although the accuracy leaves something to be desired.

Here again 50 yds and 100 yds this time with 19.0gr of IMR 4198 w/Dacron. Things got a little more consistent but the group still resembles a shotgun, at least they're more towards the middle.

These loads chronographed at 1,718 fps and had the lowest extreme spread at 44 fps

The last load ran was 20.0gr of IMR 4198 w/Dacron, these I'm pretty pleased with but keep in mind that my standards may be lower than yours. Note that at the 3:30-4:00 position there are actually five holes so these things do have the capability to fly straight I think. Once I get my eye relief re-set I'll try this one out again.

These chronographed out at 1,777 fps.

Hi Joe,

Your Henry is working well for you. I have a couple of those K2.5 scopes and like them very much. Looks like you're having fun!

Take care, Tom
