Funny but this reminds me of a true story experienced first-hand. Our family took in a donkey from a friend who had to move, and our 16 hands high ex-race horse T-bred would bite him whenever he could. One day my oldest & I were resting in lawn chairs after stacking hay in the maw & saw the T-bred rolling in the dirt and the donkey ran up, turned around & blasted him with both hooves-funniest thing I ever saw as the donkey went running away, fell out of my lawn chair laughing... kind of waiting to see if Bill's retribution is coming like the aforementioned donkey....

I have a soft spot fer mules as well, great grandpa was a horseman and many people claim he was a horse whisperer, but his true love was mule's. He had a matched pair, molly and dolly, won several pulls with them and also pulled a conastoga wagon that he'd made himself in parades and such. Said a good horse was like a spirited woman but a mule you could count on. Sorry to get reminiscent here, he was the last of the old breed he made what he needed went with out or traded for it. He taught me to shoot, he was a local known crack shot. He taught me to work hard, he taught me to keep my word, taught me fist to cuffs, and said a man who hits or hurts those weaker than himself like ladies an kids wasn't a man. He was hard as nails but would raise his hands in prayed and weep with joy for all he was blessed with!

His "professional" opinion was that it would have taken striking something denser than depleted uranium to do that much damage to his custom made shoes.
