Hi everyone,
Does anyone know if there is someone who makes a copy of the Rapine 386185 or Lyman 386178?
These are hollow base moulds for the .41 Long Colt.
I am thinking of playing around with one, not an original as they are clear out of my price range.
I was kicking around the idea of building one on a Ruger Blackhawk .357.
Any and all opinions are welcome.
I don't want a 38-40, I just like the odd stuff.

Unless you have a supply of .41 Colt brass, I would suggest something easier to find brass and molds for, like a .44-40. I love mine!

Thanks Outpost.
I have 250 new Starline brass, the dies and shellholder, so I am kinda committed on this.

HarryO has a real good article on this cartridge. Your best bet is Bernie at Old West Molds. Give him a hollar and let him know what you are doing. He modifies a Lee Custom Crimp Die so you can crimp a heeled boolit. I just cast about 100 from a Lee Custom TL hollow base heeled mold for mine. Give Cimmaron a call. They still have some of the Uberti Lightning in 41 Colt, I have one on on hold (5.5") if my dealer can't find a 4 3/4" - someone bought the last of the lot. Maybe Buff Arms? Uberti/Cimmaron are discontinuing this model.

The Uberti/Cimarron Lightening is a single action Lightning frame with smaller P model works.

Serch this sight for 41 Colt and you will find quite a bit of information.

Looks like this has finally closed, but there are usually a few moulds left over after delivery. There is no one that makes a hollow-base mould that I am aware of since Rapine closed their doors.

Here is my article on the 41LC: http://harryo.sixshootercommunity.org/

Tom at Accurate Molds will make a bored through nose pour mold for the basis of a hollow base mold. It is up to you to get a base pin from someone like Buckshot or Erik at hollowpointmolds.com. He already has at least one heeled .41 Colt design in his catalog.

When did Rapine shut down?

A few years ago. I don't know the exact date, but when one of my letters came back unopened, I did a Google search and saw several discussions on the closure. Luckily, I heard that the owner was getting old before then and bought several moulds that I knew I would want someday. Unfortunately, I did not buy enough of them.
