SWMBO let me take a Holster making class on Saturday. Learned a lot and can't wait to start working on some others. There was a really nice old gent who makes his living making leather products and suffers severely from arthritis, an affliction I finally got diagnosed for in my fingers. He had great suggestions on how I can work things to not aggrivate the arthritis and a couple of tools I can easily make at home too.

I wanted it natural colored. It blends in really well with some of my khaki slacks. I wish I had put the clip lower for the belt, and may chose to remove it and simply cut in belt slots for it. For a first time, I am real pleased with how it came out, and I can honestly say "Handcrafted by Me"

Yes sir it looks good enough to use. And you made it. It looks like you also put in a spacer for your front sight, nice touch. I like the added belt loops rather than the plastic one's like you used. But that again is more pre planning.
I have also made a couple. An each one has been better than the last.

that is a metal clip rather than the plastic I often saw on commercial versions. After wearing it for a day, i think simply drilling out the rivets and cutting slots would make the holster move less. I expected the clip to fit tighter to the belt than it does, but there is enough room, the top edge of the belt is rolling under the weight of the FS 1911 with rail and a full 9rnd magazine. As you said, learning experience.

Thank you for the compliments Gentlemen, it is appreciated.

Leatherwork (holsters!) is fun, and full of interesting challenges. I've been doing it for about three years now, strictly as a sideline, and am up to selling 5 or 6 a month. Couldn't survive on it, of course, but a nice addition to retirement!

You did a great job! Every one you do, you'll learn something new. I've been making holsters for about five years now - just as a hobby. Have done a few cartridge belts, etc. as well. It' s a lot of fun and a very enjoyable hobby. You've got a great start and you can be proud of what you made - anyone would be proud to wear that!

I've been at it for many years and confess that my first holster was not as nice as yours. I much prefer sewn on belt loops to rivets--I've not had much luck with rivets.

Sounds like your next project is a stronger belt!

Nice! I am learning it on my own so slow going. Need a couple tools yet to really get started.

Where did you find a holster making class? That's something I'd sign up for in a heartbeat.

Don't just sew, glue (contact cement) and sew. This keeps the two parts from moving slightly as it wears.

That was the plan, I am also considering sandwiching in a strip of Kydex for additional stiffness.

Yes where, I've been stumbling around for a while now, some u tube video and some backwoods articles, making passable stuff and a real nice hachet belt sheath who's front flap also holds flint steel and 50 rounds .22lr. But a class would be awesome. Very nice holster sir!!!
