I love my old 89 Silverado truck. It is close to 400,000 miles on it and now needs a new engine (350) and 700r4 transmission. A friend was to build another 350 for me, but that has gone on for near a year now and I haven't seen a new motor. So last summer I got a good deal on a 89 Cheyenne 4x4 for $822. It has a 305 and 700r4 with no reverse. My thought was to drive the 4x4 while building up another motor for the first truck. Then rebuild the motor I took out and put it in the 4x4. I had both transmissions rebuilt at the same time for $700. Two weeks ago the 4x4 jumped timing. The weather got better this week so I changed the timing chain and gears. Today I got it running again and took it out for a test drive. About two miles from the house the transmission went out, all gears. So I have one good transmission on the floor and one good 305 in a truck with all the 4 wheel drive items on it that I don't want to take out with a floor jack.
Well, that's about it. I miss my truck. vent over

Bummer! Hate these kind of things. My uncle is driving my spare dodge 2500 5.9L his 04 2500 hemi finally dropped after 510,000 miles. I feel your pain.

Sounds like it's probably an easy fix on the tranny, but only if you know what you are doing.

I sure don't... At least with trannys.

Wow. That's some serious mileage on a gasser.

Did you say 89? LOL My last 98 had two frame patches and had the brake and gas lines all redone twice before it die. There was not a rocker left. I wish so bad that I could still drive a 89. Consider yourself lucky. I have a 06 F250 SD with 84k on it and the bed is rusted out so bad I have to scrap it and put on another one. Around here you get a new truck every 10 years due to its rusted to death.
