So it's sunny and 55 degrees in Southern TN so I had to play...

gun = glock 34 with KKM barrel
boolits = lee 124gr mod'd by Eric for HP (awesome mold by the way) casting at 118gr
alloy = 1% tin, 3.6% antimony (calculated at bhn of 12) lee hardness tester says mid 11's.
load = 5.4gr win 231, cci500 primer, federal Nickle cases
lube = who uses this nasty stuff! Powder coated - electrostatically.

the test....shot into 55 gallon trash can filled with water from 6 feet (yes I got wet). I modified my hollow points into 3 groups. A.) cast, coated and shot. B.) cast coated, hp filled with grease, covered with fired small pistol primer and tapped in with hammer then shot. C.) cast coated, pre-fragmented using a razor blade 1/16" deep 45 degrees apart on the hp, filled with grease and covered with small pistol primer tapped in with hammer then shot.

results .... All the hollow points fragmented but interestingly the grease filled ones that were not pre-fragmented retained the most weight at 72%. The naked hollow points and the pre-fragmented and filled with grease both averaged 53% retained weight.

I had expected grease filled HP's to have the more violent expansion and lose more weight but that wasn't the case.

thought I'd share and see what your thoughts... May try to load some pics but th pager is going off.

Groo here
Try greased boolet WITH OUT primer [ Sub lube or wax] like the old 22lr.

I swapped my alloy today for 50:50 pb:ww and added solder so should be more tin and much lower antimony.... Should give me better expansion and less fragmenting. I meant to try some other variants but a buddy came over we spent the time casting, powder coating, and shooting...

These were cast from 50-50 WW/Pb. Velocity was about 850-875 fps. from a .38 snub with a 1-7/8" barrel.

Nice, dubber123! Im pushing mine a little faster. Im gunna have to try you 'mix' then I could save the lino. Worried a bit about the low tin in your mix but obviously its working for you.

9mm I believe has a much faster twist, and could be hard on boolits, I don't know. The Hp's I pictured have the cavity plugged with boolit lube, and expand exactly the same whether shot into straight water jugs, water jugs with heavy denim in front, or wood, either cross grain or with the grain. Same expansion, and high 90% weight retention. They are what I carry every day.

Any idea if the primer fired? I kinda doubt it would, but may be it will.

I used fired primers simply as a cap to keep the grease in the HP cavity...22 gas checks were too large otherwise I'd have used them instead.
