I have just learned that Sharps Rifle company has a new round based on the .223/5.56 Cartridge Case. They call it the .25-.45 sharps. Some have their noses up in the air as a Sharps name reminds them of Buffalo, Bison, Quigley and other things. I say , it is about time for a .25 based on the .223 case. No trimming only open the mouth to .25.
Just got a .256 and this would be better in many ways. Now if I can get E.A. Brown, Bullberry, or MGM Machine to make a barrel for my Contender. I am sure dies will soon be available. Have cast bullets with GC that weigh 68.5 grains. Hurry up warm weather, I need to go to the range. dd

T/C had the 257 TCU developed by Wes Ugalde on the 223 case in 1987. The custom would have still made one as late as 2007 if you so desired. I wished iI had goten that instead of My 256WM, but always had soft spot for the 256, so thats what I went with. MGM will also make a 25/223.

I have a 257TCU by MGM and love it. I wanted it since T/C came out with it in the 80's and it was money well spent. I shoot AA2200 in mine under any jacketed bullet I find for superb accuracy. I still like my 25-06 and my 25-20 but MGM turned the 257TCU into one accurate carbine barrel. CH4D will gladly make you dies and might have them in stock. Yes one pass into the sizer and it's ready to load.

If I could find an 25 caliber AR barrel, I'd make a 25/223 upper in a heartbeat.

Sure has. 250 Savage (250-3000). But if Sharps can sell it, more power to them.

I have had a bolt action 25-223 for a couple years now. 75gr through 110gr bullets between 3200fps and 2700fps. There has been a thread on the ar15 forum for about 3 years now and still going about the 25-223....somewhere around 90 pages long now...lots of info.

Dont think the 250 Savage case is anything close to a 223 case. The 22-250 and the 250 Savage are alike

They are not interchangeable but the ballistics are close enough to say 'it's been done.' If not for the OAL being a little too long for AR mags, someone would have already chambered an AR for it.

It has been out long enough for 4D reamer rentals to have a reamer. I like all things .25 caliber and noticed it a while ago. It has been a wildcat for a while, as others have stated.

I thought the OP was referring to a 25/233 in a Contender so your remark about the 250 kind of puzzled me since that is way over pressure for a Contender, especially with the larger base diameter than the 223

The .25 Copperhead showed up not long after the .222 Remington did in 1950. It's a good one too; the .222 opened up to .25.
Just thought I'd mention it as this is a cast boolit site. The longer neck on the .25 Copperhead is much more cast friendly even if it means reforming military 5.56 for your cases.

Why post this 'news' in a single-shot rifle forum?
Nothing produced by the Sharps Rifle Company is intended for use in a singleshot platform.
First, they made a bolt for the AR, then a bolt carrier.
Their name notwithstanding, they don't even produce rifles ... and the round is also intended for use in the ubiquitous AR15.

But, what's in a name?
While their website has claims such as, "With a long history of innovation dating back to the 1800s we at the Sharps Rifle Company (SRC) ... " I think a bit of research would show that the company is just a recently arrived tick, sucking some blood from the legend of the Sharps rifle.
