Seems Ranch Dog has been busy, he's whipped up a few new designs for the 300 Savage, 7.62 X 39 and the .308. I'm thinking Michael's 300 Savage design is the mould I've been looking for.

Yes!

I signed up for the .308 mold for my new Sagave Model 10 :)

I took the leap and signed up for the RG option for my 300 Savage. I generally don't see the need for a HP in the RD designs but most of my hunting rifles are .35 and bigger. For the critters I hunt I would like to see some expansion if I'm going to use a .30 boolit. Besides, NOE's RG moulds are awesome-looking machines and I hear good stuff about them.

I am starting with the one mold (for my .308), plain nose, but depending on how well it works out, I might get a second mold in the future with the RG option. I know that with the RG mold you have have both plain and HP, but I don't think I want to cut my teeth on the RG version just yet. I want to start with the "simpler" mold :)

Sounds good, although GB discount makes the RG option attractive. I've never tried the RG option, been pretty curious about it. I'm a firm believer in RD's WFN designs, his ranch is an hour or so north of where I do most of my hunting so I know he understands about putting a hog or deer on the ground pronto and when I do my part they do just that. Michael also designs the nose of the boolit to engage the leade of popular rifles. I don't know much about the 7.62X39 but it seems Michael has grown quite fond of that round and has worked pretty hard to design a boolit to make it work as a hunting round.

I wonder if he makes it with real lube grooves?

It would be nice to just have some of the older designs made. Like the RD 9mm.

I think you'll, like the rg once you try it. I will say my rg is the only noe mould so far that i have to tap fairly often to get it to release the boolits. Most of the time they drop on their own though. I think polishing the pins a bit would cure all that.
A rg in 300 savage would certainly give a lot of options for hunting.

It has been my experience that most any hollow point bullet mould will benefit from using mold release on the hollow point pins (just the part of the pin that makes the actual hollow point). When I use mold release the bullets fall right off the pin as the mold is opened. I only apply once before I start casting. Each time I do it before casting again. It would probably be a good idea to do it the night before but I seem to cast when the spirit moves and just apply before I go to the casting barn.

Just a thought...

I don't think so. These look a little bigger than the TL grooves on his older designs. I'm planning on using BAC, pretty sure it will carry enough lube.

What he said ;)

The old RD is my GO-TO 9mm, I'd buy an extra just for back up.
No pop-gun 'target loads' needed, run the RD's at +P velocity in the 9 and full velocity in the super.

Al is re-running a few, won't hurt to bring it up as a GB discussion on the NOE forum. With enough interest it will probably happen.
GB discussion thread already started:

Just saw that. May be able to get that ball rolling.
Wow, signup lists for RD's shortneck .30's are growing pretty fast.

Saw that, do you need a mould for your 300 Savage? Only need two more orders to get that one going.

Sorry amigo, no 300 Savages around here. Great cartridge, though.

You'll have one someday, might as well get the mould while the price is right. ;-)

Kinda sorta a little off topic, But I am really liking the RD in .257 in the .257 Talon/Dor custom air gun. Here is a pic at 80 yds. if i remember right. It is the 80g. rd-gc-fp that I cut down to throw them at 60 grains. I also hav it in 70gr as well as the standard 80 grainer. They are in 4 and 5 cavity molds from NOE.

Although I don't' have a pic of it, it shoots just as well at 100 yds.

Here is the AG. It launches the NOE 60 grainer at 1060-1080 fps. The Lyman 257420 will do 1000fps.
Scope is Zeiss 4.5 x 14 50mm mil-dot

The Gun along with my Guard Fox. LOL!!!

I have been wanting to get a Talon air rifle. What is a "Dor custom"?

LongRangeAir

It is a name coined by the fellow who has really made these conversions popular. Check out the vids on youtube under Tofazfou.
the gun started out as a Talon, and uses Condor parts, so the Talon/Dor moniker stuck. LOL!

Ranch dog has enough buyers now to put all three of his new moulds into production. If you want to sign-up for any of them, there's still time to get your 15% discount before the group buys close.

Sound advice, 300 Savage finally made it to ten and the other two will go into production soon. NOE's GB's generally move very fast, snooze and lose!

I ordered one of the .300 Savage ones, but personally, I have found the old 31141 works fine in the .300 and had good luck with the standard Ranch Dog 165 grain bullet designed for the .30-30. This one designed for the short neck may work better, guess I'll see.

I've been real happy with the three NOE group buy molds I have so far. A guy almost can't cast a bad bullet with one.

The 311-165 didn't work well in initial testing in my 300 Savage, not sure why. I have a few 311-041 boolits lying around, mould is loaned out but I may try some anyway. I like the idea of a short-necked boolit for the 300 Savage, looking forward to giving it a try a few weeks from now.

Got the tumble lube RD .338 flat point in the "projects" box. Right next to the .338 Fed dies. Some day.

Sounds like fun. Always liked that cartridge but have too many projects already. Do you have a rifle chambered for it or is that on the "project" list too?

LOL It's about half way on the list. Got a Savage lever gun to get rebored up from .308.
Something I've considered is having the neck a little bit longer... -06 type neck as opposed to .308.
http://i791.photobucket.com/albums/yy192/SNARGLEFLERK/338%20max%20length%20versus%20neck%20length_zpsjks ysxxy.jpg (http://s791.photobucket.com/user/SNARGLEFLERK/media/338%20max%20length%20versus%20neck%20length_zpsjks ysxxy.jpg.html)
But, looking at the .338 ogives, there's a limit to how long to make the necks.

I haven't worked with it a whole lot, but tried for deer hunting loads in the .300 and it shot well using IMR4895 and Dacron. A couple of years ago, I ordered the NOE 311041 clone and he ogive is a bit bigger than the original. This posed chambering problems in both my .300s (early '50s 99EG and a 1923 Model 1920). They worked OK in the 99, but I gave up on the 1920. The Reanch DOg seemed alright with either rifle as did the original Ideal 31141 mold I have.

The .300 is a good cartridge and I have found the short neck thing being problematic to be mainly a theoretical rather than a real problem, but I'm interested in this design and hope it'll maybe improve things.

Getting close now, my excitement's building! I ordered the NOE RD 313-150 RG2 for the 7.62X39 and will first try it HP'd and tumble lubed as designed.
