View Full Version : Anyone Know Who Makes a Copy of the Lee 452-255 RF?

I recently bought a Lee 45-255 RF solely for the purpose of trying this bullet design in my 45 Colts. I didn't expect much from the mould and I wasn't/was disappointed. The alignment pins didn't work properly and I had to tap them in constantly, until one finally fell out. I had to carefully close the mould with a gloved left hand to keep the halves properly aligned. I could go on and on, but the bullets I did get to cast properly shot very well in both my 45 Colts. ANYHOW...

I'm looking for a like, hopefully identical bullet, only in a good quality mould and with a single lube groove. Anybody know who makes one?

Thanks,
35W

Get a six-cavity Lee. Should do just what you want.

FWIW I have the two-cavity 452-255-rf and with certain loads it shoots better than I can hold my Blackhawk.

NOE has a 454 255 RF with one groove. Ask him when he will run more if you don't want a hollow point.

Thanks for the link! They don't have what I'm looking for, but I'm glad to know there's another custom mould maker out there.

After my experience with Lee moulds, I'm going to pass on their 6-cavity.

Yep! After I posted this I measured one of the bullets from my Lee 45-255RF mould and the NOE appears to be practically identical to the Lee design. I don't want a hollowpoint, so I'll check with him and see when he expects another run of his mould.

Thanks everyone,

I use the 6-cav Lee to feed my BP Colts and replica SAA's. One cavity hangs up a bit but that's easily remedied. Very good mould but because of the size of the cavities I have to keep a damp cloth handy. But yes, if NOE does a run it would be tempting if I didn't have my Lee. Al has a "wish list" function on his store site.

The Lee six cavity mold is a much better mold than the old two cavity design. I have many, some factory and some custom. Are they the equal of a custom mold? Of course not, but they are a bit less money also. I have used two of the two cavity molds to feed my 45s for the past 3+ decades, when they wear out, I will get the six cavity of the same.

Tom over at Accurate Molds makes some good stuff too. He can make adjustments to the designs if his catalog doesn't have exactly what you want.

Comparing the Lee 2 cav. and the Lee 6 cav. molds isn't a fair comparison.

The 6 cav. is a MUCH better mold design.

Especially if considering the older 2 cavity design with the vertical alignment bars.

The 2-cavity Lee mould that's falling apart is brand new...bought it a couple of months ago at Midway. I also own a Lee 6-cavity, a couple of years old. It seems a little better but it's for CAS bullets so perfection isn't required.

If you can use a .452 boolit, the Lyman 255 RF is a joy to work with.

I didn't think about the Lyman. Wonder what the measurements of the bullet are?

Lyman moulds almost always drop at the specified diameter, if it says .452 don't expect .454. The Lee drops @ .453-.454 with WW alloy for me.

I would suggest Tom at Accurate. I emailed him about an exact copy of the Lee 452-300RF GC bullet only in a mold that will throw them at 454 instead of 451 or 452 like my lee mold does. He had it in his catalog in less than 24 hrs. Soon as payday rolls around at the end of the month one will be coming to my house in a 4 cavity aluminum set of blocks.

You can send Derek at Hardline a sample of your bullet, and they can cut you a copy. Just let him know what you want and they can do it.
