.308 wildcat?

I did some trading for a good deal of .308 Win brass. I happened across 2 nickel cases I think were Federal?
Anyhow I noticed that the openings were a bit large for a .308 bullet. I attempted to resize them and left me with a lumpy shoulder on both cases.
I inspected the headstamp under magnification and both say .308 Win. Seems like they had a bit larger projectile in them?
Anyone have any clues ? Just curious.

Not exactly a wildcat, but a 358 Winchester is made with 308 brass. I am sure there are many others.

Yes the .338 Federal is a very good possibility. I know stupid question but, did you look at the head stamp?

Someone's handloads for .338 Federal using .308 Win brass. Let's hope not factory .308 fired in a .338!

308 Winchester is the parent case for a lot of other rounds. W/out knowing the diameter of the neck it's a wild guess.

Let's hope it wasn't a 308 fired in something other than a 308. I have some not so fond memories of 9mm being fired out of a 40. Wasn't me but I was there.

Still here... I ran across a couple more that were brass.
Measured .310 inside the neck, seems pretty close and I will try resizing these again.

Should be no problem to resize those, it can get confusing with the .308 cases being reformed for other cartridges. I have .308, 7mm-08, & .358 Winchester all using military 7.62x51 brass so I've become pretty good at keeping them separate & know them by looking at the neck size. Inside neck diameter can vary depending on the dimensions of the rifle they were fired in, sounds like what you've experienced here.
