I took my $60.00 bubbaized Carcano Carbine to the range yesterday and a box of Privi 139gr FMJ ammo, set target at 25 yards, I could not hit the target, looked a the the snow on the berm and it semed like the bullets were all over the place.
I think the bullets were undersize, I forgot to measure before I went.
At least I have 20 pieces of brass to reload. I would like a recipe for 136gr GC bullets I got from Libery bullets. I don't really want to buy a lb of powder just
use what I have, but would like a load close to factory and not plinkers.
I have a lb of H4895, Win 760, and of course Unique.

BTW I pounded two of the cast thru the bore and it looks like the grooves read
.257 bullet measures .265, I only measured the longer one.

Is the cast bullet in the photo completely filling the groove of the barrel when you slugged it ?

I bet that gun goes 0.268" TO 0.270". Shorten (and fatten) another bullet in a vise and try again.

Unless you have a 270 sizer and some cast bullets for the 270 Win (0.277") to size down, you should (shudder) buy some Hornady jacketed bullets for the Carcano and use them.

I'm with Andy on this one.
I had the same problem with a 6.5 Jap Arisaka. Wouldn't shoot worth a darn.
I couldn't keep bullets on a 4'X8' piece of cardboard at 100 yds.
My gunsmith slugged the bore and it was .268!
It's getting a new .264 barrel as we speak!

Midsouth has a .268 mold.

Works in some of my guns, not in some of the others.
