I bought this one today.
If you don't know what copper looks like in a barrel, IT LOOKS LIKE THIS !

I'm getting this out as we speak.
As soon as 100% of the copper is out of the barrel, I'll be shooting some of my .30 cal. cast bullets.

Ben, I have a old 760 carbine in 30-06 that I bought back in 79 and it is my favorite deer rifle and has killed a bunch of deer. Your gonna really like how fast it handles in brush. It does kick some but it's not a range gun anyway!

I picked one up with the wood stock a few years back, but it had been beat up a bit. mechanically it was good to go and with a good bore. Someone else came along and wanted it more than i did in the shape it was in on the exterior. I let him have it and i had never even fired it.
He later showed me some groups he had fired with just factory ammunition.....yep, should have hung on to that one.
Naturally he was very pleased with the rifle and wouldn't sell it back.
Guess my point is, some of those rem. pumps can flat shoot. Also learned to never sell a rifle without SHOOTING it first. Hope yours shoots great. They really are kind of neat looking guns to me.

35 shooter :

The barrel " floats " on all these 760 and 7600 series rifles contributing to good accuracy.
Reminton at one time boasted ( as to their accuracy ) that their 760 and 7600 pump rifles would shoot as good as their bolt actions. The jury may still be out on that point, but we'll see.............

This one has quite a bit of copper in the bore ( as you can see in the photo ) that is being removed now. May take me 2 or 3 days to get it all out.

Once the bore is 100 % copper free, I'll begin the testing with cast bullets.

Many thanks,
Ben

One thing I've noticed is that when Benn tackles something .......... it gets done with PINNASH!

Good find!

The Remington series of pumps gets overlooked by a lot of folks and that's alright by me ....... it leaves more of them for the rest of us!

My father has done great work with his. He's a shooter that a box of shells lasts 20 years but yet can with his '06 760 take down a feral dog at 440 yds (in our cattle) with a single shot and it's partner on the run @ 200 yds on the run with just it's head bobbing above the berm of snow on the county road. ............

.......... and think it's not remarkable!

I remarked ..... "You head shot it?" ........... His reply: "That's all that was showing!"

He looks at me with disdain because I shoot so much and reload so much to try to keep up with his dust!

We will all be looking forward to reading and seeing the great things Benn does with his sample in the coming weeks!

Forward Ho Benn!

Too late now, but I really like the Wipe Out/Patch Out products for removing copper. Love that gun.

Wipe Out is what I used.
I would not be without it.

_______________

Love that gun.

Well, you know.....it is in one of those strange, exotic, odd ball, calibers, it is a 30-06. It isn't even a belted magnum. So, I guess my 215 gr. 311284 HP bullets will bounce off the deer around here ?

if you have real bad copper Montana xtreme 50bmg will get it out. with a brush and some Montana you can clear most all copper in just a few min.

did you just get the copper out because you are moving to cast? the barrel most likely shot better with copper fouling. did you check it out with a bore scope?

I'm a cast bullet shooter ( most everyone on this forum is also ).

The copper needs to come out before shooting cast.

You must know something that I don't know, I've never heard anyone claim that a barrel shot BETTER with large amounts of copper fouling in the barrel ? ?

I don't need a bore scope to know that this barrel needed the copper removed.

As usual, way ahead of me on this. Wipe Out/Patch Out great products. I would never be without them either. Have you tried the Accelarator? I was going to order some.

A very good copper remover is just 10% janitorial Ammonia you can find it at ACE hardware. One quart bottle lasts a long time!

Apparently we are missing the boat by not using the accelerator.

I've used the Foam Out and Accelerator products. I did not get the mass of blue as in the video, I think my main problem with one of my tougher rifles to clean ...... a well used .22-250 Rem 788 ....... was carbon. I was not aware that the accelerator was primarily for that ........ my eyes were opened on that point.

I offer one suggestion that I do ........... the video maker used a rag or paper towel to clean his brush. I use crud blaster or brake cleaner to get the crud out of the brush. A rag or towel will remove some but push some deeper into the bristles. A rag etc. is certainly the way to go on the rod however.

The gun vise is something I will have to look into ....... I've drooled over them ........ but I can't put off that purchase much longer after seeing how stable his rifle was.

Best regards

The carbines are nice. Nice rifle !! There is a chance you may need a small base die for it but probably not. You'll be the first to know.

4 days to remove copper fouling? Well you got so I guess that's all that matters.

Post some range results. :)

ah yes... the Amish machine gun. I've never owned one however they're pretty popular within my family. A couple cousins of mine hunt deer with said rifles in .35 remington.
Bang. Flop.

I can't attest to the accuracy of the genus, but the singular .308 win I had the opportunity to bench was a solid 1 1/2" shooter with handloads. The trigger is typical of the spongy 1100 class.

I look forward to seeing your reports on this specimen.

The weather is " iffy " right now.
Hopefully I can test it in a few days.

I have a 7600 in 30-06 got it back in the late 1980's and it was used in the gun store and had a scope on it and ask the guy in the store what is wrong with the gun because of the pump was still like brand new he siad it was the owner of it. Got the gun and a box of rounds and took it back then to the said pits and test it out and did not have to do anything to the scope or anything and then try cast in it and still no problem to this day.it is right on.it has a Charles Daly scope that was on it when I got it.love that gun.i also load some acc. in it and the one the tested in it works good in it also.
