I want to start casting for my Marlin 30/30 microgroove rifling 336. I would like a good hunting boolit. Any suggestions for my first mold for this rifle?:?

I can name three . the first is lymans 31041 the second is RCBSs 180gr Flatnose and lee has a 170gr flatnose.
the first two are my goto 30 cal hunting boolits . I tend to favor the RCBS for the extra weight , though that is not much.
a flat nose heavier boolit is best for hunting big game critters.

Ranch Dog has a SWEET mold. It is his 165 grainer designed especially for Marlins. Mine drops boolits at 170 gr gas checked and lubed with 50/50 WW/Lino. I sure love mine. www.ranchdogmolds.com

Look up loads for the 30-30 and notice the weight of bullets. What bullet has the most choices? 150 grs... Then again your better off with a heavier cast bullet. My favorite is the 170 TL gr GC. WWs + a little Linotype

Here's another vote for the 311041. It's a classic.

Don't leave out the SAECO 315.

Another vote for the 311041 & RCBS 180 FN. Both are excellent bullets.:Fire:
Ranch Dog's mold looks very good as well but it looks like you would have to wait quite a while to get one.

Good luck on your quest.

Don't leave out the SAECO 315.

I was just looking at my Saeco 315 yesterday. Now there's a good candidate for a Group Buy Mold. Put me down for 1 right now.

I have both the 30-150-FN and teh 30-180-FN RCBS. BOthe work pretty well and my normal plinking loads are with ethe 30-150-FN. If I was hunting, I'd use the 30-180-FN. MIne runs a little over 190 grains with lube and GC.

NOthing wrong with the 311041 either. Whatever comes along./beagle

What about the 311291? I have the mould and the marlin 30-30. I just have not tried them out. I was a little worried about the round nose and tube magazine. Ron

The RD TLC311-165-RF is about 30 to 40 days out. I'm probably use it with the 308 Marlin Express this year on my desert mule deer hunt.

I have a feeling it will be worth waiting for. [smilie=w:

There is a group buy going on right now for the 311041

idahoron,

311291 works fine, RN is not a problem. Slug your barrel, you may want to size to .312".

On the recomedation of others on this forum I bought the Lyman 311041 and load it for my Marlin 336, it has proved very accurate so far. This boolit was designed for the 30-30, you would not be disapointed in the 311041. :castmine:
