I have an 8 lb. jug of Hodgdon 108 powder I bought from Powder Valley in 2003. I believe it is a little faster than H 110/WW296 powder. I just got a 300 Black Out upper and would like to use this powder as I cannot get any AA1680. I have Hodgdon data for the .357, 44 magnum but really would rather hear from someone that has already used it in the 300 BO before I go experimenting. I am also going to contact Hodgdon to see what they say. Not to worry, if I don't get some good data to this cartridge I will just leave the powder sitting on the shelf before doing any harm to the rifle or myself.

I believe its the same stuff as wc820 which is aa9. At least the 108 I had back in the day was.

Can you load it? Yes.

Will it cycle? There's the question of the day.

Where is your gas port?
Mid-length? It's likely that your load will reach maximum pressure for the cartridge before it yields sufficient gas port pressure to cycle the action.
Carbine length? Perhaps.
Pistol length? More likely.

If you can't find it elsewhere, call Hodgdon for a starting load.

I use H108 and I just dropped down 10% from H110. It cycles with bullets throughout the weight range. I believe that I could increase the charges but why. I tried just regular SR primers first and there was a lot of unburned powder. SR magnum primers aligned the sun and stars. David

don't know squat about the blackout but it seems like this powder would be about ideal for a small rifle case like that. What are the normal powders used in it?

296, H110 or 1680. David
