Found what seems to be a type 1871 Oveido action in "sporterized" original stocks with an 1877 date under AR.O under a crown on the right front side of action. What makes this action interesting is that it is barreled with what I believe to be a Springfield 1903 type barrel, the which is marked 5-11 under an ordnance bomb under S A just aft of the front sight. It looks like the barrel breach end was cut off and re-contoured by some hack-smith lathing worthy of a chinese machine shop crew and then carefully re-chambered to 32-20, with an appropriately modified extractor.
The gun was re-blued in a salt bluing many years ago and the stocks were "repaired" with wood putty. There is no serial number, or chambering indication, but trial and error says what it is. I suppose a 24" long 4 groove Springfield barrel is not the best to base a 32-20 on, but with an action that was made for 43 Reformado, I think we can forgive a few thou. I should be trying this critter killer out in a few weeks, and will post a few pics for those interested. In any case, for less than 200 semolians how can you go wrong? Now i just need a spanish made copy of a S&W hand ejector in 32-20 to go along...
