[smilie=w:

It's a earlier 625-4 with the older release but a ramp front sight. 5" in .45 auto. I got a sample pack of the Rimz moon clips and they're great. The trigger is a little rough in double action, but is shot 230fmj Federal factories pretty well.

Anybody know a good smith to work the trigger and chamfer the charge holes in Colorado?

Anybody have a front ramp, and a recommendation on a rear V notch. Also is there a good moonclip holder not intended for race shooters?

Beautiful gun, I've been looking for a deal on one for a while. One of these days, I'm just going to break down and pick one up at full price!

NICE!
Moon holders from SafariLand will work. They are individual pouches.

Shoot it before u do trigger work. Mine smoothed up a bunch af yr er 1000 rounds. Built my own demooner with copper tubing. Decided it was better than Rimz. Shoot it!

Congratulations. I love my 625, they are great guns. Prices were through the roof for a while, but now that USPSA changed the rules, they should become more available. S&W makes a V notch blade...

ETA: RIMZ are fine for the range, but no way I'd trust them for carry or competition. They just don't hold the cartridges securely enough for me. You can get 100 Ranch Products moons ridiculously cheap factory direct.

Very nice looking 625. Friend of mine has been lusting after one for a while.

Look at the back alleys for 625's. I got this for less than 8 after watching gunbroker for over 8 months and looking elsewhere. The Rimz work well and they have two hardness levels, I have both and I picked up a steel clip for protection duty. What grips do you all have? I have big skinny hands. Like great for ruger BH's, but my pinky is over the bottom grip on the BH.

Friend of mine that is looking for one has recently had surgery and been down for a while. As soon as he gets healed up and out of the house I'm sure the hunt will be on.

I have not found a good holder for the moon clips yet! We were lucky to find one the same size as yours and a 3" Lew Horton. My long barreled one is ported down the center rib, I used it for years as a pin gun with 250gr. bullets and a very strong charge of WSF. My gunsmith in IL has retired, he was an IL State Police armorer for many years. He could make a S&W so smooth that it was unbelievable.

My 625 is the 1989 vintage , I changed the pinned in front sight to a fiber optic style. as far as a trigger job ,all you need is a Wilson Combat S&W reduced power revolver spring kit about $15.00 , just install the lighter rebound & main spring . if you know what you are doing takes about 10 min.
Ive done the spring change to every S&W revolver i have ever owned , In the past i had two S&W revolvers that the internals were stoned & polished @ $100.00 for each gun + the spring change, they are smoother but the spring kit @ $15.00 is usually all most people will ever need !

There is absolutely no reason not to polish the rebound slide as long as the side plate is off to change the springs... I like Wolff 14 pound rebound springs and I re arch the stock main spring using a simple jig of 2 nails in a board 1 inch apart.

Of course I'm a USPSA and ICORE shooter, I wouldn't lighten the mainspring for social purposes.

Great gun find there! You'll be happy with it and if you aren't the line will form to buy it from you! I have one of the pre-lock Mountain Guns in .45 ACP and it took its 10th Texas whitetail this weekend. BTW, those deer were harvested with a total of 10 shots. Have lots of fun with it as it will handle mild target loads and full power defense and medium game hunting ammo equally well.

Ranch Products is a PITA to contact, but makes a great product. I paid $30 shipped for 100 full moons for my 625-2. Price from other sources made me want to curse...talk about mark-up!!!!!

Get some 45 AutoRim brass (when you can) for accuracy work. My 625 Mountain Gun greatly prefers loads in AR cases over the same loads in clipped ACP cases.

I went to the local gun store in Grand Junction and asked two different people for moon clips and .45 auto rims. I was told they didn't have moon clips (they did, $4 a piece for steel) and they might have .45 Remingtons (ammo). Good help is hard to come by.

PM me your address and I'll drop an 8 pack in the mail that I picked up off the prize table at some ICORE match or another. I've got PLENTY.

If you want to try some Auto Rim brass, I THINK I might have some extra(50-100 or so), and you aren't that far from me. I could meet you somewhere with it when I come up to GJ.

Groo here
I LOVE my 25/625's [ looking for a 325TR]
For moon clip carry , open carry- go to gun show and find used speed loader pouches for N-frame S&W [ old cop stuff fine]
Most will fit two in each pouch.
For CCW , I am leaning toward the 1/3 moon or 2 shot clip.
They lay flat in a drop pouch, will fit some loop holders , and are flat in the pocket.
Takes 3 to load but is almost as fast as a speed loader with auto rim shells.
Get from ranch products like $0.19 each just got 50 now need 100.

I got mine from a place called Old Sarges Drop Zone out of NY Was 100 steel clips for $30 Have been happy with all of them using mixed brass. De-mooner is easily made from a golf club driver. Cut it down and file a step in the tube. Works great for my 625, 627, and 610.

There's a saddle shop in GJ I might have make me a solder of some sort. I just barely fit 2 into an Uncle Mikes made for my Colt Dick speed loader. Dual purpose! Since I got the 625 I have found I was a little underserved carrying the Dick (I sold all my other auto's to pay for college)

As for chamfering the charge holes, it is a relatively easy job with the correct hand-held cutter from Brownells. It is a one time expense to buy the tool and with additional pilots the same cutter can be used on similar sized charge holes (45 Colt, 44, Special, etc.) It might be cheaper to find a gun smith to do one gun but if you want to do that job on more than one gun (or think you might later) the savings add up by doing it yourself.
If you know your way around a S&W revolver and are mechanically inclined, it is a simple job.
A word of warning, you're not trying to take off a lot of metal. You just want to break that sharp edge on the rear face of the cylinder. You also want to remove the extractor before using the cutter on the cylinder. You do not want to chamfer the extractor if you will be shooting rimmed brass (45 Auto rim in your case), however cutting the extractor is not as critical when using full moon clips.
If you go to a gun smith make sure he knows what he's doing. You can ruin a cylinder and extractor in a second if you don't know what you're doing.

Good Luck

I was referred to TJs Gunsmithing in Aurora (Denver metro area) and currently have a 25-7 in .45 Colt in his shop. I'll let you know how it turns out.
