I have used dozens of Boyds stocks and never disappointed. However, I always fit and bed the stocks to my satisfaction which means I remove wood in some places.

I used a laminated Boyds JRS (IIRC) on the wife's RH Model 70 Winchester. Dropped right in. I'm a lefty also but Boyds offers very limited stocks for LH actions. I went with a HS Precision on my LH Model 70, for that very reason.

It was a big deal when Boyds came out with a lam stock for the Axis. The guys over on the Savage shooters forum got in line to buy the stocks, and from the feedback they were not disappointed. I bought one for a 308 that I re-barreled with an ER Shaw in 358 Winchester (heavy profile), and I had to do some inletting to fit the new barrel. However, with the recoil lug system on the Axis (lug stays in the stock), I never felt comfortable bedding the rifle. Enter Goodsteel: Tim changed out the recoil lug with a rifle-mounted lug that he machined, and proceeded to bed the action like it was a factory job. He's now fitting a Hart barrel in .223 (got a good deal on one), after getting a new bolt head and .223 magazine. So I'll have a switch barrel rifle coming soon. I just cannot say enough good about the work done by Tim Malcolm.

Are the action retaining screws just holes drilled in the wood stock or do they have steel bushings that contact the receiver?

I've got a nice lam. LH stock for my LH Axis cast bullet silhouette rifle that I am building. ( I had to build one to make sure I can compete with "Nobade".) ;) I don't like the recoil lug system either so I machined off the front of the action and am using a Tubb's recoil lug instead. The stock looks well made for the price and will glass bed it. I think they are a good value for the money. McMillian, no. But they sure are a lot cheaper! :-P

I bought one for my left hand .223 Remington chambered Axis . It dropped right in and my group problems stopped instantly . While I would never buy a Garand stock from them ever again they did good on the Savage stock .

My wife's CMP Garand had a new stock on it when she received it. If I'm not mistaken, I think those are boyd's stocks. Hers is a real nice piece!

They drop right in. The magazine was a little tight on my wife's .308 but it wasn't hard to make it fit nicely. A glass bed job and I am pleased with the way it shoots. Had it out to 600 now and I couldn't hold 4 moa with the factory stock.

Got one for my W70 30-06. Looks great, fit great, would buy again. I added some arcaglas gel around the Rx lug, but it really wasn't required. I really liked that I could order it in a longer LOP than the factory stock.

Put one of their thumbhole varmint stocks om my Savage 12, dropped right it, it does NEED to be bedded and pillars would be nice too, also I find the length of pull a little short?
I'd do it again.

Put a Boyds Walnut Sporter on an old Weatherby Vanguard a couple years ago. Like it a lot. Wish I'd sprung loose with cash to get the checkering as it is a bit slick.

I put a nice Boyd's walnut stock complete with checkering, recoil pad and sling swivels on a 670 Winchester. Very minor fitting and in my case bedding was needed but most of the prep work was already done. Very handsome stock, well worth the price.

They are a very durable stock. I just wish theyd trim them down a bit. there a bit to heavy as is.

I got the lightweight thumbhole stock for my Edge (Axis) in 30-06. Fit was perfect, accuracy improved and felt recoil dropped.

I just got a set of black laminate stocks for my Enfield Sporter. Very Nice! $60 and $49.

Fit is very close to drop in. Enfields vary a lot.

HHMM??, I've been seriously thinking about filling in the relieved area in the barrel channel with lead shot and epoxy, and even drilling out the but and adding some shot in there?
At a bit over 12# it's still a little light?

Funny, just last night I got a new stock for a Rem 870 scattergun. It took all of 20 minutes to change the stock. Only mod was a little filing of the wood on the butt stock. The inlet portion of the butt, so no big deal. It was just a tad long and rocked some on the back of the action. 1 minute in a vise with a cabinet rasp and it fit perfect.

Nice wood and a good finish. Not hand rubbed, but looks like either a good quality poly or similar. Finish was matt. The contours of the stock were very unique and worked well with firearm. Mounting the gun to my shoulder is now simpler and more precise. I also had the butt pad added. Fits like a champ.

I'm waiting on a Richards for a Ruger M77 (Boyds didn't offer anything I liked). Richards doesn't offer anything for shotguns. So we'll see about the Richards and with all I've read they should be as good as well.

Actually, none of these laminate stocks have ANY finish on them. The resin they are impregnated with makes them essentially a plastic. The lustre of the finish is based on how much the surface has been buffed out. If you spend some time with a soft buffing wheel, the matte finish will turn into a gloss finish. This is great when it come to repairing blemishes; just sand them out with ultrafine sandpaper and then hit it with some buffing compound. It will blend right back in.

Stock I got was Walnut and not a laminate. Boyd actually has some really nice wood in their offerings. Same with Richards.

Not much of a pic but that's my Boyd walnut stocked 670 on the left. Stock is about 6ozs lighter than the factory birch stock at right.

I have to give kudos to Boyds - I ordered a stock for a customer's rifle two weeks ago. XX fancy Claro walnut, checkering, forend and grip cap, the whole works except for the initials engraved in it. $400 and it showed up yesterday! Now that is some kind of fast service. Last year at SHOT, Randy Boyd said they were redoing their plant and making it more efficient. He wasn't kidding. Looks like I'll be using a lot more Boyd's stocks on rifles in the future if their delivery time is this good normally.
