since i am a cast newbie, i was wondering if these bullets would work for deer(poss. black bear) hunting.

1. 45-70 in 405gr fbfn loaded between 1200-1400fps around 13-14bhn (saeco)

2. 444 marlin in 265gr gc rnfl loaded 1600-2000fps around 12-14bhn (ranch dog)

3. 30-40 krag and 30-30 win in 165gr gc rnfl loaded 1700-2000fps around 12-14bhn (ranch dog)

thanks

Hope so! I am basically shooting this

45-70 in 405gr fbfn loaded between 1200-1400fps around 13-14bhn (saeco)

Mine is the Lee 405 grn HB - 3031 - about 1350 fps

All of those should do just fine unless you're going to be hunting out behind the nuclear power plant and the critters have got dosed with radiation and have morphed into super beings, then you may have to kick your loads up just a smidge.[smilie=f:

All 3 look like winners to me. I'd expect #'s 1 and 2 to be most effective due to the larger bore size.

I think you will be fine with any of your loads listed.

I'm no expect by any means, however just how BIG are the deer up your way? Unless they're super deer, think any would be more than adequate. I think maybe I NEED a bigger gun!

I killed a nice doe this year with a 150 grain bullet going about 1600 fps out of my 270. All of your bullets should be more than enough.

You can and should juice the Krag up a good bit to benefit from the cartridge capability. Other loads/bullets look fine.

All should do fine, have been getting it done longer than we've been around. A decent sized chunk of lead doesn't have to go very fast to do the job on deer. Your 45-70 load killed millions of buffalo, got anything that big in PA?

Your plan looks good, you are however, handicapping the 45/70 compared to the rest, trajectory would make longer then 100 yds. kinda difficult, and the 405 grainer can be used at the same speeds as the rest.

can they ? indeed they can IF you can put the projectile in the right spot and that amigo is what it all boils down to anyways ,failing that ....hopefully you miss as it beats a wounded critter suffering
i ,sadly, understand that so many buy into the adverts stating "the such n such newestwhizenboomerloudenmagnum is the only gun that will reliably kill the dreaded thin skinned bullet proof american whitetail" but it just aint so .....ye humble .22 lr has killed elephants for petes sake ( not something i'd wanna take but ...poachers have used it successfully as well as on other assorted critters ) shot placement is paramount , for centuries muzzle loaders with what would be termed laughable ballistics have killed scores of game bigger and tougher than american deer , btw ? with pure soft round ball loads , just about everything you listed best many of those muzzle loaders ...best suggestion pick one and practice practice until you know your load inside and out and can put that boolit where it needs to be and you'll be eating fresh venison in no time , umm that putting the boolit where you want it will be even more important if'n you come across a big blackie and in that case i'd tend to favor the bigger caliber ( there is something about knock down factor with big heavy slugs lolz )
if distances are longer i'd tend to go with the 30-40 or learn the rainbow trajectory of the 45-70 real well , 150 yards or less ...pick the one that you're most comfortable with ( as that's half the battle anyways ;) )
