I just called MGM to get some prices and info. I am looking at buying a 44 mag. barrel from them. The twist rate is 1 in 20 ( it can be had with 1 in 18 for a $100 more). I am wondering what your thoughts are on the 20" twist rate? I don't want to pay a $100 for a 2" improvement, if it is an improvement. I will be shooting, a Lyman 215gr. GC and a RCBS 250gr KT. and a lee 214gr. PB.
The price for a 14" in blue is $350 and a 13 7/8" in blue is $250, (go figure). I will be going with the 13 7/8". What are your thoughts, has any one had any problems with MGM barrels?

Ruger SBH is 1-20, S&W is 1-18 3/4. I have .44 mags in both brands and shoot 250-280 weight cast boolits in all of them and am completely satisfied.

I opted for a 1-20 in the MGM barrel I just ordered. The T/C will throw a boolit faster than the revolver with comparable loads, so stabilization should be even better in a 1-20 twist.

I say save the extra $50 and get a 14" in 1-20.

Thanks Hickok. I'm going to order it today, there is a 4 to 6 week back log though. I hate buying something and having to wait to get it.

Hickok,
Is the 1-20 the standard twist for MGM barrels? I went to their website and it didn't list twist rates and flagged the order when I tried to specify one. (I want 1-20) Since they no longer let you specify I was afraid of getting a 1-38 like the H&R. I am thinking of an 18-20" carbine barrel.

4 to six weeks wait for a custom barrel is very fast turnaround. You musta not had much custom work done before or you would have a much different perspective on the issue than you currently do.

Rick, call them. Their number is 1-435-628-0071. That is how I got the specs. I am ordering one.

Yes, this will be my first phone order custom barrel. I bought a custom 357 max rifle barrel for my TC quite a few years ago and it was some what of a wait, I ordered it in person and I picked it up in person. It was just a short ride across Phoenix to get it.

Give them a call and verify.

Well I finally got time to order one. We were really busy the last two days. I ordered the 44 mag, 13 7/8", blued and polished. With shipping it was $270.00 including shipping, and "now we wait". I had them tap it for a front sight (just in case). NO extra charge.

I'm in hurry and wait mode too. I just ordered a 20'' 38-40 WCF from MGM. I have dies and some ammo ready to go.
