I am knocking out alot of these odd idea projects that are in drawers way to long. This is a rifle profile barrel 26 inches long smooth bore chambered for 410 with full choke. Can you see the fellas at the trap shoot swallow their tongues as you yell PULL and swing a scoped mauser onto the clay!! But to pull this off I need a bolt body that I can open up for the shotgun rim. The reciever is a vz-24 and my question is will a argentine 91 bolt body work? I guess another question would be what 98 mauser bolts will not work for this? I would use the guts out of this bolt body. This receiver gets all sorts of duty, top barrel is my 8mm-08, next down is my 50-80 thumber and126600126601 that ones a hoot, and then the 410 barrel.

Much easier to convert a Mosin- Nagant. The bolt face is ready for the .410. Made one for my son when he was 12.

Mauser did make shotguns on the 98 action. Last month, I passed on a commercial Mauser shotgun marked, 16 ga. It had a full flat bolt face, controlled feed extrator and a full flat, single stack magazine follower.

Sounds like fun.one of my shooting buddies has a smle in 410 and took it out at a trap shoot. I hear they were all sorts of yelling and shouting following the first few shots lol

The 91 bolt won't work. Any standard length 98 bolt will fit the vz receiver. The Yugo won't.

My Turkish Mauser has a slightly longer bolt then the standard 98, but there are Turks that take a regular 98 bolt. Spare bolt bodies are not hard to find but are going up in price. Check Sarco, Gun Parts Corp, etc. E-Bay will probably have some available also.

I had a thread over on blackpowder cartridge section I think it was called 50-80 mauser. That big hole in the barrel and the cartridges funny stout shape is a eye popper also. The amazing thing is it works!

I will continue my search for a bolt body, thanks for your input. If I can't find a bolt I will use this 410 barrel with its twin for my original plan which was to make a swivel double barrel gun with them.

there is a shop here that has several of the 410s built from rifels , he takes in consignment guns an apparently at some point a lot of guys turned mausers and enfields into 410 shot guns , he has a growing collection as no one wants to buy them

I will see what the mauser he has is you might be able to buy the hole gun with an already modified bolt for what just a good bolt will cost you.

edited : I just called the shop, he said he only has a brit made into a 410 but a shorter 410 , on the shelf at the moment the rest were commercial 410 bolt guns , he has had a few over the years but thought most of the Mauser were made into 20ga that he had
