I have seen a couple threads lately on books so I thought I would tell you about one I recently read. I saw a book on JB several years ago in a shooting range in TN and always regretted not buying it. So a couple weeks ago a bought one used on Amazon. Man what a great book it starts with his father becoming a gunsmith and ends with his death in Belgium.

You hear lots of people refer to him as a firearms genius which he was but I never realised just how much till I read the book. It seems like he was almost tormented for lack of better word by the ideas and inventions running through his mind. I also did not have any idea of the level of trap shooter he and his brothers were. Another discovery for me was his generosity with his machine gun patents to the government. I believe he truly wanted our soldiers with the best weapons available. Anyway a very interesting book for Browning fans. FB

I read that book long ago, probably before high school, and I enjoyed it very much. I have always wanted to pick up a copy and reread it. I should probably do that before it becomes unavailable.

Can you believe that before I was in high school I went to the public library, and that's where I got Keith's "Sixguns" and the book on JMB? Probably several others that I don't remember now, but Sixguns was the most influential shooting book on me I ever read. I wonder if any of those books are still in the public library there?

I have owned that book for 30 years or so--great read and a great re-read. JMB is in my short list of Great Guys. I loaned it to my son in law and he went out and found him a copy for his library. Lots of history between the covers.

Bill Prolly because google doesn't like guns. They have some Nazi rules if they will allow one to register ones gun related website with them.

If you have ever taken a Model 94 Winchester apart and then reassembled it, as compared to the Marlin lever action, you will either think John Browning was a genius or ......:groner:

Seriously, one of the great firearm designers of all time!

Looks like it is not free anymore unless you have the amazon "Kindle unlimited" account. It was free on my prime account when I got it. Now it is $2.99 on a prime account. Or you can "borrow" it free on a prime account. When I did my first post I did not remember where I got it. Sorry for misleading on the free status of the book.

I have the Curt Gentry book and it is excellent. This one below is a smaller book done originally in 1942 but there are modern reprints. I have one of the originals. Its a supplement to the Gentry book.
