I've watched a guy using this instrument while others sweep and crawl and bend. Seems like a good idea to me. It's just a spring on a stick.

I've got a better tool than that. A revolver.

I just spread out a tarp to my right
and then I shoot all I want:Fire:
Fold up the tarp with the brass and pour the brass into a 5 gallon bucket
Throw it in the trunk and head for the house!:drinks:

Tarp is a good idear, IF you don't live in Oklahoma (or maybe Wyoming or Montana). You'd have to have most of your casting stash in 50 lb ingots around the edges to hold it down!!!

edit -- I forgot to mention, since it's also usually gusting the brass wouldn't land on the tarp anyway...

I think it's a great idea! The problem I have is that those hot empties hit the snow and disappear. Maybe a weed burner added to Joe's tool would help.

I like that, my tarp gets most of it but when the CZ52 comes out all bets are off!

In case you don't recognize it, there is a commercially made device to pick up pecans (nuts) and golf balls without bending over. DALE

The CZ-52 requires a Tarp In Two Dimensions--ground cover, plus another 8' x 8' vertical element to catch the empties outbound to the adjacent area code. Screen door/window material isn't quite so sail-like in windy conditions--but will still blow around some.

I someday hope to build a 3 sided open frame structure lined loosely with window screen type material. With luck the brass will all fall into the bottom of the loosely draped screening as I HATE-HATE-HATE chasing brass.

I believe there a still a few pieces of .380 brass from the old lady's KelTec in orbit. I'm still gonna make one of those gizzmos up and give it a try!

My lama used to throw them straight up so they landed on my hat brim. Just needed a wider hat is all.

Bought an inexpensive metal detector. When the kids saw me using it they fought over who was next. Got all the brass back.

Wouldn't work at our range - paved in .22 brass and Blazer aluminum. The
detector would only locate the ground.
