Going to start in an Encore pistol.

Haven't done any loading yet. Hodgdon will have data for the .327 Mag for industry insiders in 2-3 weeks and go public in late March. When I get that data from them it will give me a baseline to work with.

I have to get a reamer and barrel before that. Looks to be a while away. Gotta save up.

If you buy your barrel from OTT you will not need a reamer.

Damn, $400. Might be cheaper to go that route. Counting pennies....

Thanks for the link.

No problem,

Mike is good people and his barrels are the very best. You might be better off buying your own blank to send to him. He only charges $200 to do a barrel on your blank. If you half a blank with someone you can have a OTT barrel for less than $300.

My initial assesment. Out of a revolver it's GOING TO BE LOUD!!!!

Probably won't work well. The 22 Rem Jet and 256 Win Mag were designed for revolvers and the idea was scrapped because of gas cutting. The single shot Ruger Hawkeye did ok with it, but specimens are getting close to a grand.

The Marlin rifle did ok with it too, but didn't sell too well. There was also a Ferret rifle that can still be found on GB and such.

The same issue will apply to the .25-327 Fed Mag. If it were low pressure like the 32-20 there might not be much issue. I tried taking down a 32 H&R case but it's too short to fit in the 256 Win Mag sizer die to form the neck. It just looks like an incredible crimp job.

The top revolver is a Ruger Maximum frame converted by Gary Reeder to 256 GNR (357 Maximum necked down to 25).This round shoots great with Sieera 75 gr HP or Nosler 85gr BT at 1900-2000 fps.
I shot a doe last year with the Nosler 85gr BT load, the doe went about 30 yards and piled up.
If you load it too hot yes it will back out BUT if you load any revolver too hot you will lock up most guns .

Looks somewhat like a 25-20 Ackley Improved cartridge, but at higher pressures. I would like to know if it works in a revolver. I once had a .22 Jet and everything said about it jamming is true. Buy downloading it and cleaning the cylinder and cartridges with tetrachloride (to degrease them) just before shooting, it was tolerable. It would be nice to get a .22 or .25 centerfire that works in a revolver, though.

22 CCM works great in a revolver.

I've known the cartridge as the .256 Maximum. Been looking at getting one made up for an Encore. I'm sticking to straight wall for revolvers.

My concern would be that longer, more appropriate lead bullet weights - 75, 86 grains, etc, which would have better downrange smack - would not go with the extra short neck. These have a better reputation for accuracy in .25 caliber barrels. Sixties at high velocity lose speed like they've got a parachute attached.

You've got to consider that optimizing it for a sixty hamstrings it with a more useful 75 or 86. Optimizing it for a 75-86 means too much throat length for best results with a sixty, which is really no great loss.

What about brass? Can it still be gotten?

Better cartridge name--Freek's 25-20 From Hell, or 25-20 FFH. That will look good on a headstamp, over the stars and bar from Starline.

How about "The 25 to life Federal Magnum"? Has a certain ring to it.
