I know that W296 / H110 & HS-6 need a mag primer . What about VV N-110 , n-105 ,n-350 or n-340 ? VV data shows a SR primer . AA#9 some have stated that ES & SD are reduced using a mag primer ? 4227 some have recommended mag primer for cold weather or less than max load ? 2400 , Unique , Herco , Blue Dot Alliant says std SP primer . SR4756 & 800X IMR data shows a mag primer ( Rem 5 1/2 ) . For many years I'd always used a mag primer in this caliber , mainly with 2400 & never used other powders except for Unique in lighter loads with a std SP primer . Can anyone steer me straight ?

Contact the powder manufacturers. They will tell you what you need to know.

Well everyone except Alliant & Vihtavouri says WSPM primers . Alliant says std SP across the board , Vihtavouri says SR primers . Add to that loads other forum members have posted , hence my confusion . Looks like I should of stuck with just using a mag primer & been done with it .

In 357 my rule of thumb is the fine kernel ball powders get magnum primers, flakes get standard small pistol primers.

Make life easy. Use mag primers on everything and just back off the starting loads and work your way up. I've been using mag primers for forty years with no problems what so ever. By the same token, I know other reloaders who use non magnum for everything and have no problems with loads and they shoot very well.
